Credit Card disabled on PayPal

Went to buy something on ebay yesterday and ended up on paypal. My credit card had expired so I had to update my expiry and CV number. On trying to update these details, the paypal site reported that my billing address was wrong. This is the same card that worked with this address for many other paypal transactions. So I retried it a few times and before I knew what was going on, my card was disabled.

I rang their customer services and they said that the address must not have matched and for security reasons had been disabled, and to contact my credit card company. Rang them and they say that 5 attempts by PayPal succeeded and that I should contact paypal.:mad:

Contacted PayPal again and they said there AVS (automatic verification system) rejected my card over the billing address and nothing could be done about it.:mad::mad:

I can't imagine that I am the only person that this has happened to. If anyone has any suggestions as what to do next, please let me know. The only options I can see are getting a new credit card or a 3V.

Phone Paypal again, and ask them for a copy of the data they have on their system about you, including address. You are entitled to this information under the Data Protection Act, and if needed, ask for a supervisor or manager.

You should then be able to see what is the difference between your paypal listed address and your bank credit card address. Sometimes it's as simple as having the details in a wrong field or something.

    Best of luck.

I had the same thing happen to me a year ago. Card I had registered expired and when I went to renew it, they kept saying the address was wrong. I contact the card provider who told me that 10 attempts to verify by Paypal had all succeeded. Rang Paypal to be told there was nothing they could do about it and was told to "get a new card". Luckily, I had a 2nd card, which I had to update last month, only this time it worked fine.

Don't know why they fail sometimes, crappy Paypal system.

    Thanks for the replies.

According to Paypal. that number can never work again for them. Once disabled, it can never be reenabled. None of this makes sense. Paypal are at fault but there system looks to give the customer services little or no ability to override things. Crazy!

NEWS FLASH - Card accepted again!!!

Created a PayPal account for the Mrs and used the same credit card again (its a card in both our names).

I had tried this earlier but this time I changed the address so that my City was Artane instead of Dublin and my Province was Dublin 5. I have to wait on my statement now with the paypal number on it again to get it fully authorised. But at least its something.

They better not screw around with this is the mean time. :(
