I need a bit of help for my li'l sis... She's got Sky Plus, and a Sony Ericsson K800i, but my question is - how to programme your Sky Plus from a K800i.

I've heard it's do-able, so any help anyone could lend would be greatly appreciated...

    Ta.

This is the remote record function you're talking about. Go to the Sky.com site here for further instructions. You'll need to register and download the app for your K800i. I use it on my K800i and it works brilliantly!

Hey, listen - thanks for the great advice, I logged on to Sky, got my MySky Account, went home registered the account on Sky+, but now I have two final questions -

How do I download the app to my K800i and also do I need to keep the phoneline attached to my Sky+ box as I don't generally keep it plugged in?

    Thanks for the help though...

When you register on SKY.com for remote functionaly, if I remember correctly, it asks for your mobile number and sends you a text with a link to download the app directly to your phone.

As regards, do you need to keep your phoneline attached to your Sky+ box, this I am not sure. I guess, there's only one way to find out and is to try. Typically, when you set a programme to record on your mobile, you'll receive a message saying your Sky+ planner will be updated in the next 20mins. Good luck.

You only need the phone line connected if you have multi-room (tis is to verify that you haven't given one of the boxes away to someone else).

You're "supposed" to have it connected as per your contract but they don't really care when you don't have multi room.

If you do have multi room, then they DO check and you will receive a letter from them if it's not connected. You get three letters and then they charge you the full price for both boxes unless you reconnect it.

Hmmmm... Confused now... Better get on the blower to Sky cos I never received a text from them to download the programme... grrrrr......

Thanks Patrick for the info on Mulitroom - I've got mates who have multi-room and they got a letter, but yet I never had - we were wondering why - I never keep my phone line attached.... But I've only got the one box so that's ok....

    Pretty Miffed - Ritz...

You need to have the phone plugged in to use this!!

I wanted to do it but your mobile will have no way to tell your sky+ box to record something without it being plugged into a phone line

That is incorrect. The phone line is not required for any of the remote record functionality. I have used it on mine with the phone line disconnected.

The instruction to record is sent via the satellite link to your box (it can identify you by your sky card).

In fact Sky will never dial your box - they couldn't if you think about it - it's not a dedicated phone line and is normally someones home phone. They send instrutions over the satellite link to the sky box and get it to call sky (there's a freephone number stored in the box that it calls).

You can also get the sky+ box to record via the sky website. It's free, doing it by mobile has a charge.

ETA: Actually you need the phone line to register the sky+ box for remote record. Once you've done that then the phone line is no longer required.

But dont you need the phone line initally?
If you look online it says it will need to register, I think i had this problem when I tried to do it.
It shouldnt be a problem to the OP though

Yeah, you do need it for the regististration. (I had edited my post to add it but you beat me to it!!)

    Thats great news anyway,
I will bring my SKY+ box over to my mates house (who has a phone line) register the box and I can do the remote record.
    Sweet

    does this cost anything?

    That should work fine.

I think its about 50c or so for each SMS (recording) so isn't cheap.

I use the downloadable app as opposed to SMS. Using the downloadable app, it's like a mini Sky+ guide UI that appears. Very sweet indeed! The cost using the app is based on your dataplan for your mobile phone carrier.

How much data is transferred if you want to record something using the program on your phone? Im not on any data plan so just wondering. Think O2 charge 1c per Kb
