Do I have to give a reference from my last employer and does it look bad if you give a mobile no as oposed to a landline?

Most employment contracts or offers of employment are conditional on the employer receiving "satisfactory references".

So unless the employer asks, you don't have to give a reference.

Yes, a mobile number looks bad.

As in a mates mobile number.;)

Yeah sometimes a mobile number can be looked at a bit weird (not bad just weird) because how can the company verify that it is not a randomers number. With a landline number you can normally find out if it is a companys' number or not.

Prob depends if you can give sufficent reason for only supplying a mobile number. I have used them before as my last company didn't have landlines.

On my CV I would have listed as a referee can be provided if requested, they will normally request one then in the interview/or when offering the job where you can explain the mobile number or whatever.
