Searchable database for Irish placenames

    A trial version has just been launched. It is still incomplete but when it's finalised within the next year or so, it should make available the Irish language version of even small townlands all around the country. Looks very good to me.

    I've just checked a few townlands near where I live and so far none have Irish names confirmed, It's likely that some never had Irish names at all!

    It won't be finished until September 2008, according to this page, so you probably won't be able to be sure of that until then. Apparently there will even be sound files for the pronunciation of some placenames. Looks like it'll be very comprehensive when it's finished. :)
