Whats the problem with it some kind of routing table issue...Also How do i get root access. I know on the set up is doesnt alow it for security porposes, i think there is a potentail way of accessing it from the recovery console.

for root access i think when you setup that you have root access but for security reasons you have to enter your password every time. If your password for sudo access is the same as your logon password you have root access. Be careful what you change I'm a nube myself but I've installed a few versions currently using Kubuntu 7.10 tried an update after installing and corrupted the kernel :P:P.... anyway I digres are you behind a firewall for internet access and does it effect all internet access? Oh signup to Ubuntu forms there should be better answers there.

re: how to get root access
    sudo su
    should do it

that returns an error, i think its a feature of Kubuntu not to set up root access

Also try sudo passwd or sudo root passwd that should setup a root user that you can actually log into.

Also if you go to add / remove programs you can install a package called root terminal. This will then appear in your applications. To open it you need only type your user password!

    Good luck

    Hmmm... what error message?
Yes it is a feature and I don't have a kubuntu install myself but I use ubuntu and I understood they worked the same. In ubuntu I can sudo su and when prompted enter my password (as opposed to the root password) and then I get a root shell!
And I haven't created any password for root, i.e. I cannot login with root or do su - and provide a root password.

sudo passwd or sudo root passwd
    sudo passwd root, rather.
