Irish Rail - Phoenix Park lifts out of order already?

I'm sure we all see the "XX lifts are temporarily out of order" info on the on-platform signs. AFAIK this is for maintenance purposes.
Yesterday I saw that the Phoenix Park lifts are temporarily out of order. Do they really need maintenance already?

I raised the general question about lift maintenance to a former IR manager. He speculated that the group that builds the stations and lifts is not doing as thorough a job as they could (to keep costs down) and this results in the need for quite regular maintenance (done by a different group).

It takes very little to put a lift out of order - all you need to do is over load it and it goes into failsafe mode and won't work until it has been examined and re-commissioned.

We once tried squeezing about 24 people in the lift in college! :D

I notice that the lifts at the LUAS platforms look a bit delicate compared to ones you'd see in outdoor platforms in europe. Are we installing the wrong type/quality of lift considering it's going to get a hell of a lot of abuse.

I was told about some spanish teenagers who did the same (they were over here to learn English). The lift recognised that there was something wrong and went into shutdown mood. The doors closed and the lift went to the bottom floor but didn't open again. It was a while before an technician could come out and re-set it and it was a very hot day.

Those of us who travel through Phoenix Park station regularly might question the possiblity of Phoenix Park station's lift ever being overloaded...

On most trains, passenger numbers getting on/off at Phoenix Park tend to be in the low single digits.

I remember the lift in the Henry Grattan building in DCU back around 1990. You could open the lift doors from the inside and the lift would stop between floors. You wouldn't believe the amount of graffiti on the lift shaft walls!
A bunch of class mates got stuck in an overloaded lift in the Engineering building. Facilities were not impressed.

Oh, a power cut will also be a reason for a fault. Given that it is a new station in an areas with ongoing construction, this can't be ruled out.

If lifts arent installed properly the go wrong very easy.

Even something as simple as the lose wire in the phone line to the lifts can cause them to go out of order.

I've used the Phoenix Park startion a few time. I must have doubled the passenger loads those days
