    Hi,

Not sure if this should be in motorhomes and campervans but here goes. Am in the process (on the home run now wahay!) of restoring and converting a 1975 transporter with my husband. Engine's sorted, have pretty much sealed up the interior and started it up for the first time in about 15 years this week. We put in a new engine and intend to fix up the old one at some stage. We thought that the old carb was fine when we cleaned it down but it's not running as smoothly as we'd like, any suggestions? We were advised to just get a new one by another vw head but thought we'd just give it a go as is, anyone get an old one working well? The seals looked fine when we stripped it and the engine is running pretty well but could be improved.

This is my first post in classic cars, am hoping to get a classic for my next set of wheels :)

The original Solex carbs are always better than modern Brazilian or even German remakes.
There's a couple of guys in england who specialise in reconditioning carbs - Lawrie Ellis gets good mentions

What size of an engine is in it? - sometimes you can get better mpg and performance by fitting a set of twin carbs, which are widely available to suit VW's - if you say what engine you have, I could send you some links to what's available
