Terrible NTL/UPC reception

This has been a recurring problem in every room in my house and it seems to be a weather thing - although maybe not. Why the wind would affect cable reception is something someone here is going to have to explain to me.

What basically happens is the picture breaks up, stutters and jumps on a regular basis - similar to what happens with Sky Digital in a bad storm.

There are 3 TV points in my house, all installed by NTL and above board so I don't see it being a case of the signal being split and weakened as a result.

Some times it only happens every now and again for a second or two - sometimes it's near-constant. For example I recorded The Daily Show at 20:30 on More4 today but when I went to watch it the first two minutes were nearly exclusively jumpy and stuttery, to the point where I had to stop it altogether.

It's about as entertaining as listening to a badly scratched CD.

So I'm wondering if this is all that common with NTL/UPC users and if so, why does it happen? Will ringing them up and complaining do anything, or will they just tell me they've boosted the signal (or send someone out to look at the box who will then tell me the box is fine)?

Mine started doing the same yesterday. It stutters, occasionally. And like the OP said, its as entertaining to watch as frying eggs.

I don't know why weather would affect cable, so I was thinking maybe sudden bursts of interference, but I cant think what the source would be.

    Any ideas anyone?

there sounds like a problem with your connection at the main junction box.Its not your fault its the person who put it in.
    this is what you do
    phone your provider
    dont curse or use explitives
    explain about your bad pictures
tell them that you would like either a new cable pulled in or an extra cable
you want the levels at the junction box checked
    sending a boost is bull
if thats the best they will do say you are considering changing bacause of the bad service you are getting
i done it just like that and i got 6 months full package free
keep the name of the operator written down so if you have to make contact again at least you have someone thats knows your problem
i hope that helps any other problems pst it and i will try and help you
