Anyone got any....unique Flickr contacts?

I was just made a contact (not mutually) by this this quite attractive girl.

And while I admire the courage of her convictions I find it a bit odd that someone would want to randomly add people to her contacts list just to get a point across.

Call me old fashioned but I join photography sites for photographs. Anyone else come across this kind of thing before?

Maybe she thinks that since you come from Holy Catholic Ireland, you might be a nice contact.

I do have some contacts that are not mutual, but many have come from some groups.

I sometimes add people as a contact not to contact them but to keep track of their photos as I like their stuff

I rarely contact my contacts!

.that was like the time that some one asked me to join this group on flickr and I joined. it was all pictures of landscapes and stuff seem pretty normal, had a look at their discussion board and everyone was calling each brother (and not in getto way) blessing each other and discussing how they would get the word out about how much god loves us.

I've had a bunch of random people add me as a contact too...


I always get worried when I go to look at their photos and the "Take me to the kittens" button is in the corner..

One Mexican girl had this amazingly large ass... and she wasn't fat.. just had this disproportionaly large ass... very transfixing for some reason.

Not really on flickr but I discovered I'm friends on facebook with someone (make up artist in NY) who is friends with Lionel Deluy.

Pretty cool.

I added this complete stranger to my contacts ... unlike your case this is not because I wanted to him to join some secret nutball religious sect ... but rather I like the work he does with leggo (yes leggo!!) and wanted to keep an eye on it -

Oddly enough he then added me for some reason ... must be because I'm moderately attractive ...

I regularly add strangers for this reason ... that's why they have three access tiers - general, friend and family ... each can be given unique access to certain images ...

ah yeah I add strangers from time to time because I like there work and want to keep an eye on it, infact I'd say about 50% of my contacts are strangers due to this

There can be other strange people on Flickr.

As a matter of routine, I block anybody on Flickr who faves a number of my images without commenting on them but:
(a) has no photos of their own on Flickr
(b) has no information in their profile

I had one Flickr user who faved about 25 of my Tuscan landscape images without a single comment! When I checked him out, there were only two photos (both of paintings) on his Flickr page and no info in his profile. He had only two contacts, and one of them had links with a Chinese company that did paintings from photographs. That started an alarm bell ringing in my head! It occurred to me that I could be providing raw material for paintings of Tuscany to somebody for free, without even knowing about it.

Ever since then, I check out anybody who faves my images but doesn't comment on them. If they have photographs of their own up on Flickr, fair enough, but otherwise, I just block them.

I had to block a guy a while back. I had a groovy XPro shot of my sister, who happened to be wearing cowboy boots (in fairness she lives in mexico now and shes a little impressionable so I've excused her that). She emailed me and told me to check out the other favourites of some guy who had faved the shot. Turns out most of the other faves were foot-fetish-fodder. Naked models wearing nothing -but- cowboy boots and the like. She was a little put out about it, so I had to block him and make the picture friends and family only to assuage her. -sigh-
