    Hi

I will be travelling to Thailand, then through Laos and onto Vietnam this summer and I heard you can get a Visa for Vietnam while in Thailand. I heard there are some places in Bangkok you can go to. What are these places? are they travel agents? and how long can the process take? I also heard that you need to state an entry date on the Vietnam Visa application, do you have to enter Vietnam on that date or can you enter a day or so later?

    Thanks and Regards

Well from personal experience you can pick up a vietnam visa all over thailand for about 30 dollars, I got mine in Chang Mai, it took 5 days to organise as they take your passport off you with a picture and send it to bangkok by motorcycle courier, was a bit worried that I may never see my passport again but hey guess what?? I received it on the 5th day. You can enter Vietnam on the day of the entrance requested or any day after, I think the visa was valid for 30 days if my memory serves me correctly. Hope this info helps!!!!!!

Any T.A.T. (tourist office of Thailand) throughout Thailand or the Vietnamese Embassy (Bangkok only). I'd go for the embassy as prices seemed to vary wildly in the TATs.

Any travel agent should do this for you
Got mine in Chiang Mai in 5 days too, no problems

Dont worry about it at all, there are so many agents available to do this, picking one is the hardest, not finding one :D

Have friends that got theirs at the embassy in Bangkok - didnt save a whole lot as they had to get taxi there and back as well as losing nearly a whole day waiting

we got ours in about 3 days in Bangkok. we went to a travel agency and like everyone else a guy on a bike took our passports. but its no hassle and wherever you are staying you can explain to them what you want and they will organise a bike or whatever to pick you up and they all know lots of places. we overstayed our Visa in Vietnam by 4 days and when we tried to leave the airport we were taken into customs and ordered to pay about 30 dollars each. make sure you dont overstay as its just a hassle you dont need.

You can get Vietnam Visa from Thailand via Vietnam Visa online service like www.vietnam-visa.com. It's the best way to get Vietnam visa on arrival. Apply Vietnam Visa online, receive approval letter via email or fax, get your stamp at airport.
It cost 25$ for 1 month single Vietnam visa and 2 working days.
    More information, check here: http://www.vietnam-visa.com

Is there any way of getting the visa without having to hand over your passport for 5 days??? I really wouldn't be too happy about that!

I think you could go queue in the embassy itself, but given my experience of vietnamese officials I'd say thats dodgier . Got my visa in Laos. You could get them in 24hrs/48hr/3days depending on how much you were willing to spend. pretty much every hostel has this service in Vientiane. Its possible to do so in Bangkok/Chang Mai also, you will have to be specific on the dates which is why I waited until Laos. The cheapest place to get one is Cambodia

If you're going to be anywhere near the embassy while in Bangkok (not too far from the major shopping centres) then just go do it yourself. Take advantage of the express processing if you're only in Bangkok for a day or two. If you're there longer then just get the normal (48 hours?) service. There's never much of a queue there.

Like others said, you will have to give a date of entry which can be annoying if you're not 100% sure and plan on spending close to 30 days in Vietnam.

Easiest way is to head to the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok. I did it this way and it took about 2 hours. It’s quite easy to find, I’m sure it is marked on the map in the Rough Guide South East Asia guide book. If I remember correctly it’s 1 or two stops before the MBK Shopping Centre on the Skytrain (coming from Silom Rd) and about 10 mins walk from train.

2 types of visa you could get, 1 was a month and the other was a 14 day. I could only get the 14 day as I was applying while Chinese New Year was going on so they wouldn’t process a month visa.

Maybe it’s just the 14 day visa that can be done quickly????

Where abouts is good in Cambodia to get one? How long does it take, and how much?

We won't have time to get one in Bankgok, as with the new shortened visa, we'll have to rush through it.

The quickest place is is phonm pehn, as that's where the embassy is. I did see them advertised in the hostels in siem reap, but not sure how long they took and I did notice they were dearer than they were in P.P.
