Ok, perhaps an odd question, but a DVD I got has a sticky residue from where the price sticker was, and it doesn't seem to want to budge. Is there anything I could use to remove it?

    White spirit.

Or just use a sock next time.

Got white spirits? If so a dab of it on a tissue will take care of it

Lighter fluid or Tar remover for cars would work well.

    Fire? ;)

But the sticky price goo is a major aesthetic problem these days. Companies should sort it out. Picked up Brotherhood for a fiver in HMV yesterday, and already the cover is marred with yellowish sticker goo. Boo-urns.

    That really could get uncomfortable......

But, as the other good folks at boards.ie have said, a wee dod of white spirits should do the trick

There's nothing worse than taking the 3 security seals off a R1 DVD to discover that each of them has left sticky residue which is nigh on ompossible to reove all over the case. Best thing to do is buy some DVD cases and dump the ones affected by sticky residue syndrome.

Discs.ie have 25 double dvd cases for 5 euro.

Put some Pledge or Mr Sheen spray on it for 30 seconds and it should rub off easily.

Well, all I had was Metholated Spirit, but that seemed to do the trick marvelously, and removed all the sticky goo. Fantastic. :D

As disgusting as it sounds, if you spit on the cd and wipe it, it does the job

Could be worse, if your case is paper/card they get absolutely destroyed.
My poor Jurassic park trilogy boxed set, nastlly torn by the Virgin security seal :(

I'd like it if all DVDs came with the plastic wrapping, that way all the price and security tags are stuck to the wrapping, and come right off with minimal fuss. I suppose it's only a problem if you're buying from high street stores, you don't get annoying tags buying online.

Only problem there is might make it easier for someone to swipe from the store, Taking off the plastic wrapper is painful but if someone knew what they were at they would have it off and the security tag in no time.
Dunno why companies just couldn't have sticky stuff that didn't leave a mark.

I usually get some sellotape, wrap it around my index and ring finger (Sticky side out) then press it onto the sticky area and lift. The sticky residue gets stuck to the sellotape, for some stubborn residue you need to to it a few times.
