I have just had my new house wired for Satellite TV (Sky) The electrician said its wired for SKY + . Can i upgrade to Sky HD and use the same wiring without having to get Sky to rewire the house again. Basically do i just need the HD dish and Box ?

I think that HD uses the same cabling and dish as Sky+ but uses a different STB.

Yes 2 cables are required for Sky + or Sky Hd...

2 co-ax cables from a dual LNB attached to your dish are required. They mostly supply quad LNB's now. The Sky + or HD box has 2 receivers so you can record one channel while watching another. Cable from the standard Sky box will do fine.

The quad LNB will allow you to run one Sky +/HD box and 2 standard receivers or 2 Sky +/HD boxes all from one dish. Basically any combinatation of 4 outputs.

    Hope that helps.

I've a noobish question but I've got a new house with a wall mounted tv over the fireplace and never had sat before. Thing is, while I have a power socket behind where the tv is, I only have a normal TV ariel connection there too - no scart or anything else.

Can I get the likes of a Sky or SkyHD box signal through just an ariel line to the tv?

    Yes, but with care.

As you only have one aerial socket you cannot run Sky+/HD, only a standard box.

You can join the cable coming from your Sky dish to the existing aerial cable. Just ensure that the existing aerial cable is disconnected from everything else (RF amp/distribution, TV aerial and of course the TV itself).

Use proper connectors, don't just twist the cable together, and you'll need to convert from TV connector to Sat connector.

One other thing, you might need to remove some component on the back of your wall connector. I think it blocks voltage or something. Somebody else might know more about that.
