It has been a long-time dream of mine to visit Iran and flights are relatively cheap. Has anyone been? When did you go? Any recommendations on where to go etc?

Almost a useless post by me, but Ill post anyway. My cousin + his GF visited Iran last year and loved the place. Never had any issues and he felt welcomed by the locals.

I believe people go via london or paris on BA or KLM/Air france. Alitalia and an austrian airline i believe go too. That is what i can recall from my iranian friends..

    Just back from Iran.
Lovely and very beautiful cities specialy Tehran, Esfahan and North of Iran (call Shomal; beside caspian sea). Absolutely no issue, just fun, people are very friendly.

Flight with Turkish Airlines are very cheap and good. you could also go through Paris by Air France and Frankfurt by Lufthansa but Turkish is very cheap. Cost me 470 Euro return.

    Dont miss this country:)

Thank you! How exciting! Did you go on your own/partner/with a group? How safe is it for two girls for a few weeks? Is it in any way fundamentalist? From reading about it, it seems that it was always very liberal until after the revolution and the Ayatollah Khomeini stepped in but that liberal psyche still remains. I have lived in Saudi Arabia so I can cope with obeying the rules or what have you but I'm not sure I fancy a "holiday" that is extremely restrictive but really want to go there! Do please tell me more! Thanks for posting!

How were peoples experience with getting the visas? I've seen alot of visa helpers online, but don't know which one to trust my money with.

Visas for Iran are no probs. Go to the Iranian embassy in Blackrock, give them 50 quid and 5 working days and you've a 30 day visa.

Id highly recommend Iran, the ppl there are so friendly and there's lots of interesting things to see.Dont miss Esfahan, Shiraz and Yazd. Masuleh up north is also nice.

I went with Qatar Airways with a stopover in Doha, if I remember right it was around 550 euro rtn.

If you want a laugh read my article on my experiences of the heroin trafficking game and caviar dealers in Iran here:-

Seems a great place and heard its very cheap to.

Can you drink over there or whats the craic, any nightclubs or anything like that?

Have always fancied a trip there

Nah booze is very illegal but its still possible to find if you go looking, especially amongst the very small Christian population.
Tehran along with Beirut used to be famous the world over for its nightclub scene back in the 70's but since the 1979 Islamic Revolution those days are well gone.
Any action is around hip and trendy coffee houses in northern Tehran

Filthy cheap though, I spent e500 there traveling around in a month, it was just next to impossible for money to leave your wallet, taxi rides for 30c, beds for a fiver, meals 2-3 quid, very cheap living and they dont charge Westerners extra like in Asia, you just pay the local price.
