playTV for Playstation 3 and DVB-T free channels in Cork?

DOes anyone know if the playTV module will work in Ireland?
One of the guys is looking to buy this and was obviously wondering if it would work firstly and if he would need any further equipment.

PlayTV, a combined TV tuner and Personal Video Recorder (PVR) for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™)
PlayTV will allow users to watch, pause and record live TV. PlayTV can also record individual shows, or entire series to the PS3 hard drive. The videos can then be watched from the PS3, or can be transferred to the PSP to watch on the go. PlayTV will provide a 7-day Electronic Programme Guide (EPG2) utilizing the "widely available" DVB-T format.

The peripheral will feature two TV tuners that are 1080p compatible, allowing users to view, record and play full HD television signals. Through the PlayStation Network, the program will be constantly updated, to improve the service and offer new functionality

    Thanks,
    S

I would be interested in getting one also, although I'm not entirely sure where...peats won't be doing it - so far - play.com are the only people I can find...http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/3595202/Play-TV/Product.html

If it does UK Digital TV, and UK Digital Tv's work in Ireland with Irish DTT, it should work...

Incorrect. Irish DTT is only in a trial phase at the moment and may end up using MPEG4 which is different to what is used in the UK. Does PlayTV support that?

allegedly it does, according to this speculation:

personally, i'm interested in its frequency range - would it go down as far as UPC's...

Umm, it does DVB-T, not DVB-C! Also, encryption etc...

i know what you're saying, but dvb-c & t aren't THAT dissimilar - just depends on how it gets to you (like saying your analogue tv would work with an aerial and not cable link)

and re encryption - reading in another thread - some guy tuned in discovery (digital) from UPC on his bravia tv, apparently certain channels are out in the open on UPC - its just a matter of finding a tuner that goes down to UPC frustratingly low frequency range for digital

Are you sure you're not confusing the analogue channels on cable with the digital channels? No way will a DVB-T tuner pick up channels transmitted using DVB-C. Completely different standards.
