Following communication between the Department of the Environment and the owners of this site, please note that we are no longer allowed to link to different County Council's web-sites and/or County Development Plans as doing so appears to be causing some confusion as to what is allowed in certain areas.I know it's a pain but our hands are tied. We will be deleting any links and/or mentions of these on sight.

Government officials are great at changing rules on this day, sometimes it's hard to believe whats true or not.
If they had any sense they would wait 'till tomorrow..

How does linking to material cause a problem? I can understand not allowing people to reproduce stuff from the site, but surely giving URL link can't be an issue???

My understanding from the admin pm is that posting info from one counties DP could potentially conflict with another counties.
This has two problems, one is misleading for the public,
and secondly, the internet is a recognaised published media source, so boards.ie (and therefore Tom and other owners) are liable for the info it publishes. Its very unfair for message boards who suffer the most, but thats the common law precenant.
If somebody says it is ok to build [certain house type], and quotes various DPs, it my be accepted, but if even one out of 20-30 DPs contravenes this, then boards could be liable

I just hope that you dont quote from a devp. plan today.

Dont say ye's weren't all warned.

Well surely that is easily resolved by ensuring that those asking for help clarify what county they are in?

So this mean that posters can't even give their opinion on what may or may not be accepted by one council even if they DON'T post links to the DP or council site?

I think ths ruling might need more clarification or maybe my late nights are causing my brain to malfunction!

    Mugabe(ism)

What follows is in search of clarification for the sake of the forum: if I get barred/banned or whatever so be it.

There are, IMO, at least four possible scenarios here
    As examples

    1: A link to a coco website : eg www.ircoha_coco.ie

2: a link to the CDP: eg www.ircoha_coco.ie/CDP

3: quoting in a boards message from the CDP
The CDP for the ircoha coco allows 3 story dormer bungalow with no PP required for 'attics'

4: In response to a query from a poster as to what the opening hours are for the MIL recycling the following gets posted

    www.ircoha_coco.ie/Recyclingtimes

The impression I get is that all 4 are no longer allowed, where as I can see the legal issues with 3 but not the rest.

Would www dot ircoha_coco dot ie fall foul: it is not a link.

Is it possible to post the actual dictat from D of E or does it need a FOI request?.

Just off the phone trying to get some clarification on their request - its just extraordinary. Nothing new to add at this point.

Perhaps an extract from the communiction (letter?) listing out what they feel may be confusing would sort this out.

I love it when a plan comes together. (Pun intended) :D

Time to unsticky this and let it fade to oblivion.

Well with the government these days anything is possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,712 ✭✭✭✭muffler

And I'm not going to say who PM'd me and said they were looking for an email address for the DoE so as they could complain :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,959 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Ah you should have let them email, probably would have kept the DOE busy for weeks trying to figure out who contacted Boards.
Actually I wonder how many hours/days are lost in Departments after April 1st pranks.
