April Fool's stunt goes wrong in NZ
    Tuesday Apr 1 13:56 AEDT
A New Zealand radio station trying to pull an April Fool's Day prank ended up in damage control after it was overwhelmed by people wanting to see the Foo Fighters play for free.

Auckland station The Rock apologised to its listeners and posted a message on its website after the prank went wrong.

According to the stuff.co.nz website, the station expected about 50 people to turn up to see the American rockers on Tuesday morning and promoted the concert as a secret gig, to be held at the Powerstation venue in Auckland.

The station apparently planned to play a Foo Fighters album on a tape deck instead of having the real band play live.

Program director Brad King told the website the station received inquiries from fans, record labels and promoters.

"People were booking the day off work and planning to drive or fly to Auckland and more than 2,000 people could have turned up at the venue," he said.

On The Rock's website there was a notice from King apologising for the stunt.

"This is an April Fool's gag, dreamed up by our over enthusiastic promotions department and completely untrue," it said.

"On behalf of The Rock I sincerely apologise for this mis-information. Contracts have been terminated, and heads have rolled. This is what happens when fools plan April Fool's jokes."

So have you had any go tits up?

A mate of mine last year phoned his mum pretending to be the Gardai to say he was in a critical condition after a car crash.

He was kicked out of the house for over 2 weeks.
