Borders and Frames for online shots?

Just curious, do any of you use frames for your shots when you put them online? If you do, what are they like? Just a little curious, experimenting a little myself as I'm hopign to tidy my site up some.

Do you like frames on pics online, or not? And if you do, what kind of style do you think is best?

I don't mind simple ones myself, over done ones can be distracting sometimes I think personally.

Personally I like borders/frames on online shots.
Most websites have a lot of multi-coloured clutter and (for me) it helps remove the shot from the clutter. But I would go with simple borders - ie black and/or white. for the same reasons.

I like them generally. Recently I saw a drop-shadow border type effect and I thought it looked really well. Doesn't suit some shots maybe but I reckon frames can add definition.

i never bother with them, and dislike anything which isn't simple.
another thing for online shots which rubs me up the wrong way is people who have 'firstname surname photography' (usually in a script font) in the shot when they're just an amateur.

I do frames, a 10 px black, a 4% white and a drop shaddow on the black inside frame

I wouldn't put a frame on the picture itself, but if I was putting together a site I'd probably frame it using html tables.

Generally no but it depends on the shot. One I posted recently for example actually needed the frame (in my own opinion) to set it off. I think i used 20px black however its the exception rather than the rule for me.

it's one thing if you're doing paid work, but if not, it makes it sound like you have a company doing it.

    +1

Websites (including forums) have so much going on I like to see a picture "framed" to separate it. Also, depending on the shot/page background you don't know if they'll bleed into one another. (There's about 20 different skins for Boards). Not much into fancy frames and drop shadows though.

How come nobody had used this thread to post one of their shots in a frame yet? :D

The reason I asked was because I'm going to be redoing the galleries on my site (layout, content etc) and I'l be getting rid of all the individual ones, having just a single Live gallery with all my best shots, one for studio once I have some more to put in it etc and I'm thinking of changing the simple white frame I have at the moment. I'm not allowed post a lot of my pics on here so you can see em at www.RCNPhotos.com and I'l see if I have some knocking about that I can put up here.

Just had a look and, imo, the simple white frame works best with the site's black BG and the relatively dark content of the shots.

I prefer frames. Sometimes, they just close the picture, but most of the time, they help to "isolate" picture from the page/background, as has been mentioned before.
You have to realise, that frame is part of the picture, so it should be adequate and appropriate to tonality, style and colour scheme of the picture. If you want to have it as a preset for your page, keep it in style of the page. The white subtle one should be nice. Consider rounded corners, for example, to make the page look different.

Cool people, cheers for all that. Cheers Dades.

Sorry for OT, but how do you frame your photos? I've done the increase canvas size and fill with black, but I wanted to try something else. In CS2 there is supposed to be a Photo Frames option in the Actions palette - but I can't find it! Help!

Click on the brushes toolbar "Brush Preset Picker", then click on the arrow on the top right hand side, this is a drop down menu, click on Frames there & append to your presets. You can add extra ones in quite easily too. :) Let me know if you have any problems!

Oh there should be some in the actions palette, which is what you mentioned.. Not sure if you need to add those in yourself or should they be there automatically... They are there in mine but I've added a good few add-ons so not sure if there were any there or not to begin with.

If there aren't it's easy enough to record your own action for adding a border/frame. I've done it myself. Personally I think a small border offsets the photo really well.

I put them on sometimes but never for any particular reason other than I would like to put a frame on a shot :o.
