07' Renault Grand Scenic

Anyone out there had a problem with the clutch on the Scenic. We have a 07' Grand Scenic 1.5 Diesel. It has 32k on the clock. Left it in for a standard service. The garage told us that there was a leak from the gearbox. The clutch on the car is hydraulic not cable. They replaced a seal, in doing so the had to 'bleed' the system. The clutch hasn't worked properly since. They have since replaced the master & slave cylinders, all covered under Warranty thankfully. Spoke to the mechanic who did the work on the car. He said this new hydraulic clutch is a S.O.B to work on. He said they are impossible to bleed. There is more than likely a bubble of air in the system. Either way the thing aint working right...Left the car back to the garage today again, the clutch pedal is very 'jerkey' and it's difficult to engage 1st or 2nd gears.

Anyone with similar problems or indeed successful outcomes

I'm no Renault expert - but the leak was from the gearbox and the master cylinder is nowhere near the gearbox - I don't see why they replaced it.

What was leaking from the gearbox initially - was it brake/clutch fluid or gearbox oil.

Is your repairer a main Renault dealer? Surely it's covered under warranty. Tell them to take the car and not return it to you till they have it sorted. Demand a replacement car for the duration of the repairs.

To be fair to the garage (GBM Cityside main Renault dealers in Kilkenny) they have been fine. They've given us a replacement car on the 3!! occasions we had to leave the car back to them.

The problem is that they don't have a 'service manager'. They have a receptionist with as much knowlege on car as me, i.e none. She alway has to go and ask the mechanic...can't tell you directly and doesn't understand the problem herself...I'm not being sexist....I'm not a car person myself.

The last time we collect the car we spoke to the mechanic directly. He said the 'bubble of air' would probably work it's way out of the system in 2 or 3 weeks

About the leak...never thought to ask...I would have thought it was clutch fluid. They know that we're not giving back the replacement car this time until it's totally sorted.

Whether the gearbox had to be removed or not, once you go near the clutch fluid lines, you have to bleed them. If the gearbox has to be removed for any reason, the clutch lines still have to be opened. Chances it was the gearbox seal, and the garage was quite open about it. It is a big job. They could have just as easily told you that it was just a clutch problem which would not have sounded quite so bad. Indeed, the fact that they spotted the problem when it was not pointed out to them,-they could have just as easily let it run out of warranty and sent you the bill!
Many garages now use Female Service Receptionists as oppose to Managers.
The thinking behind it is that Irate Customers are less likely to "Loose the head" with a female, though I have seen some people who are just plain Ignorant and assume that they know nothing because they are female---It makes the customer feel better about themselves!!!!!!!!!!
