Handicaps

I'm joining a club soon and I will have to put in 3 score cards in order to get my club handicap. I currently play off a society handicap of 12.

    My question is:

What happens if my 3 score cards prodice a handicap of 15 (for example).
I would feel a bit guilty if I played off 15. Will my club handicap be based on the 3 scorcards regardless of what my society h'cap is ??

    I'm a bit confused.

I presume they have asked if you have any golfing experience and play in any societites, if you have told them your society handicap is 12, then that should be considered along with the 3 scorecards in determining your new club handicap.

That sounds like that most common sense approach to me.
I wouldn't like to have a dogey handicap just because of a few below average rounds.

Stick in a note with the three cards saying that your society handicap is 12. I'd say they'll most likely go with what the 3 cards tell them, but at least then they can't come back to you in a few months time when you shoot a good score and say something. At leats you'll have covered your back.

Your handicap will be based on observation also, so if you par the 3 hardest holes on the course but then go on to shoot an 18 over due to an 8 they will not give you a handicap of 18.
They always take stableford adjustment into account for handicapping purposes (i.e give you the lowest score that gives you 0 s'ford points) but for an initial handicap they will go further, your handicap is supposed to be difficult to play to.

I understand the software that calculates handicaps automatically discards your four worst holes (i.e. handicap based on best 14) and anything over a double bogey. So, if you're on target to shoot +12 and you send three drives OB on the 18th, then it won't screw up your card.
