    Hi PSNI

Seen that you have got back to many queries and just asking for your advice on this.

Originally applied for Police in the UK. Have been so far succesful after 2 years and just waiting for secuirty checks and refs. I have lived in Dublin for 2 years. Is it possible for me to transfer my application to the PSNI? I know that its not possible for the Garda.

    Thanks,

    Mel

Mel, you can't transfer your application to PSNI like you can between forces in Britain (on account of the weighting of recruit percentages between Catholics and Protestants 50/50).

However, what you can do is serve your probationary period in your force (which one have you applied to?) and apply for a PSNI competition through Consensia. On getting through this you will go to Garnerville as an EPT (experienced police trainee) and do a condensed conversion course and no probationary period. This also applies for Gardai that might fancy a move north on a permanent basis.

For PSNI officers; you can move to other UK forces on transfer but check the small print on transfer conditions as these can differ somewhat from force to force.

Thanks Metman. Had feeling that was the case. Applied for Avon and Somerset- just at the 2 year mark for getting in(applied before I moved to Ireland). Security checks taking ages as lived in Dub for those 2 years so they have to do one security check in UK and one over in Ireland. Thanks for the advice though- handy to know about after probation.

I know of at least 1 ex-Garda who had to do the whole 20 week course and was not allowed any concession whatsoever. The condensed course is only offered to those from other UK forces.

I would have thought it would depend on what training you did seeing as we co-operate with training now. I remember an ad in the Garda review about this but I cant remember what was offered, if I see it again I will check.

How long is the EPT training, again out of curiousity?

Dave in total its around 14 weeks, maybe a bit less depending on your experience. EPTs must serve a minimum of 6 weeks training.

6 week familiarisation programme ending with exams.

2 weeks firearms training on the Glock pistol (this is a pass/fail course).

4 weeks driver training (maybe less depending on your current level).

    1 week of tactical training.

    1 day fire safety training.

    2 days search training.

    3 days first aid training.
