Timing Belt - advice

    Anyone know a rough price and getting a timing belt done on a 1.4 Peugeot 306. Millage is quite high and I want to get it done for Piece of mind. As far as I know it hasn't been done since 65K and its now up to 110K and still going perfectly :o

    Anyone know A rough price. I havn't a clue what to expect and can anyone recomend a place around D15 area.

    Are these single or twin cam engines? Single cam are usually quick and easy, twin cam are trickier and more expensive. That's a general comment, I don't know the specifics for your pug.

    It will be going perfectly until it breaks.There are no tell tale signs. that it is about to go.Most timing belts are fairly well hidden and cannot be inspected but a general rule of thumb is that a timing belt should be changed every 60kmiles/100k kms. I would recommend getting a gates belt.IMO I never had any of them go on me.
    As regards price that can vary on how awkward the belt is and the garage that fits it.
    For a timing belt if you can stretch to going to a main dealer than do so.Remember if the timing belt snaps a lot of expensive damage can be done

    Yeah thats why I want to get it done.

    Its a SOHC 8v 1.4 engine. (Single cam)

    Good god - not another TB question?
    Its simple - call a main dealer and ask for the service dept - and get a quote.
    Then get a quote from a garage who does servicing of all makes.
    Compare the two and make your decision. Simple.

    Don't go near any backstreet garage for a timing belt job. A Peugeot main dealer will know exactly what to do, ie replace worn jocky wheels, tensioners etc. Main dealers do not cut corners and will not use bogus parts and will guarantee their work. The price may be higher in the long run but at least they will not tell you to be "on your bike" if your back with it snapped in two months time. Just ring up your local Peugeot main dealer, get a quote and book it in.

    Complete and utter bull, you don't work for Peugeot by any chance? - I got a TB done at a Fiat Main dealers and it was the apprentice that did the work. Had no problems with it but I was paying top bucks for an apprentice to work on my car. When it went out of warranty I started taking it to a "backstreet garage" one man operation, the guy had 30 years in the trade and probably had forgotten more about the trade than that apprentice ever knew.

    have to agree there. Not worth going to main dealer with a car of that age especially it being a relatively straight forward petrol version. Any reasonable mechanic can do this job perfectly well. Just be sure that they renew tensioner etc and possibly water pump too.

    Any good mechanic would do that with one arm tied behind his back.

    Tensioner doesnt need to be replaced unless its noisy water pump certainly does.

    So timing belt water pump coolant and labour should be around 200 euro.

    Plus vat.

    ive never went to main dealer, always have gone to a reputable back street garage as you call them, most will guarantee it too, and be as much as 50% cheaper than a main dealers, if you shop about
