Analogue channels on a HD LCD?

    Hi all,

I am close to deciding on an LCD for my bedroom. I currently have an normal CRT tv that needs replacing. Now as its in the bedroom I don't have a digibox or Sky+ or anything like that hooked up. So it is mainly used for watching the normal analogue channels and movies/games through the PS3.

What is holding me back from purchasing a tv is the quality of the normal analogue channels. I read somewhere that the picture quality is abysmal but then again I also read it was watchable but not great.

I also read that the picture isn't as bad on a 720p as it is on a 1080p?? I'd appreciate any thoughts and opinions

    Thanks in advance

I was surprised how well analogue cable looked on my new LCD(26" 720p). I had seen older LCD TV look horrible with analogue cable and it put me off buying for a bit. Are you going to use it for terrestrial tv?. If so you might be able to pick up the DTT trial which looks great. One thing I will say is LCD seem to pickup noise alot easier so you do need a proper point if using cable.

Thanks for the response. Yea I believe the analogue channels look a bit better on the smaller LCD's but I am looking at getting a 37" Samsung!

I will mainly be using it for analogue terrestrial tv, although if its cheap enough I may invest in a 2nd digibox from ntl.

    What is the DTT trial?

NTL will cost I think 50 to install it and 8.50 a month after that.
DTT is digital terrestrial tv. It only on trial at the moment. If you have a freeview tuner in the the new tv you can pick up the signal (4 irish channels) with rabbit ear if your close enough to 3 rock. Check out the terrestrial forum to find out more

€50 to install? I have the NTL broadband in my room so there is a box on the wall already for an ntl digibox. All they have to do is connect a new box. I guess that doesn't make a difference!
