    What way do luas use of operating their radio? I heard that the use an encrypted freq. I can't pick them up on my old bearcat anyway :)

    Not the same tetra or distribution problems. Besides the Dept. has been organising Tetra and gave contract to eircom (as an infrastructure for al;l the services). I don't believe Garda was much consulted.

    eircom has sold most of their masts. Tetra cells are bigger (as designed for services) thus eircom needs masts twice as tall as regular phone masts (a lot of sold masts are not just for phone and tall enough). They are having problems getting planning approval and also have described the masts as "support structures" to try and slip them past "Mast Hating NIMBYs"

    The proposed version of Tetra eircom will deploy (which the Garda need not sign up to!) at Government expense is far far too slow on the data side.

    But the Luas tetra network only has to work in two defines areas, the garda version would have to work nationwide..

    So are you saying, and we all know its not going to happen soon, that if the Gardai get computers in the cars, it mighnt work properly and effiently
