Wuz walking down Henry street today and was surrounded by a group of guys in their twenties who started shoving me and calling me 'f-ing emo' and 'loser' and all sorts of horrible names. Its not the first time ive been shouted at on the street but this time was super scary - about six of em in the group. Im only a 16 year old girl and very quiet. I keep 2myself and dont cause truble. Why do they hate me? Ive never done ne harm 2ne one...

they don't hate you. They couldn't, they don't know you. It's very hard NOT to take something like this personally, but it really wasn't personal. At the end of the day, some people are just dickheads. remember that those guys would have been too chicken to say anything to you if they were on their own.

Wow, 6 guys ganging up on one girl? How pathetic.

I would imagine they were inner city scumbags, who'll attack anyone really, for any reason they can.

Do you dress like an emo?

Some idiots will pick on people they perceive to be easy targets <- you.
They can sense you're vulnerable, this is what triggers it.
Perhaps take up some sort of martial art? Something to boost your self confidence.

They don't hate you. They're just stupid.

That reeks of discrimination , they could just as easily be some posh scumbags form a certain school close by ,

Op why they picked on you is their problem not yours it’s a sad fact that people get targeted for no apparent reason and well it is likely to happen when your on a street that is attached to a street referred to as the most dangerous street in Ireland , there are cameras all over that place did you call the gaurds ??

You're a soft target and they want to feel empowered by treating you this way. They know you can't do much to defend yourself and pose no threat to them. Don't take it personally but try to avoid the situation in future.

    firstly, what is an emo?

Secondly OP I know myself when I was younger and looked/dressed "normal" I was targetted walking through town a couple of times. Those scummers have nothing else to do. Be yourself and dont worry.

That's actually assault and harassment. It's a criminal offence.

Henry Street's well covered with CCTV, you should contact the Gardai.

The fact that they're in their 20s and targeting a 16 year old girl on her own is only going to make it even easier to have them prosecuted.

OP - its their problem not yours.

don't take any notice of those losers. how pathetic are they?
you are more than entitled to dress how you like. just walk away from people like that and give them no reaction, it's all they want!

Ignore them and realise you dont want people like that to like you. Id be proud that the kind of person you described doesnt like me, nice wan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 126 ✭✭ladd19

Firstly OP dont take it personally because thats what dey want, dey are only dickheads who enjoy bullying, not bullying you personally, just in general.

Secondly, its battary and assault, go to the guards asap...its a criminal and civil offence.

yea op, it really has nothing to do with you at all..
i saw a perfectly normally woman walking along the other day and these two guy s just walked over to her and spat at her.. it i had been walking faster it would have been me!

Yuck!! there are times i don't like dublin at all!

    OP-

Whats been said above is exactly it. They dont hate you, they are been the typical cliched assholes who will pick out anyone who dresses different, listens to different music etc.

I have black "emo" hair and I get alot of **** for it but I keep the head up and laugh it off because of how stupid they are and immature. You should too.

i have to say, i am pretty impressed that some inner city scumbags actually knew what 'emo' was. how progressive of them, in my day it was 'fcuking rocker'.

goes to show that things never change. there will always be groups of degenerates who pick on people who arent in a position to stand up for themselves.

OP- It's nothing new trust me, since I was 14 I had this myself, it's plain ignorance and ignorance is the best way against it, "Rocker, metal head. emo" whatever it is always happens, eventually you'll learn to not pay attention i'm 21 now and have toned it down to dressing more progressivly but only because of work etc when I go out I still wear what the hell I want and listen to the music I like. Put simple if it was the other way around and they were"Emo" and you were on their side they'd still have done it.

op I was walking to centra the other day went past a pet shop en route and two scummers came out (who had been chatting to the girl behind the counter) and told me to get in a cage inside seeing how as i was a dog i belonged there
Its not you some peope are just arseholes pure and simple.

I have rang the pet shop in question however, spoke to the manager and informed him that his Saturday staff keeps some rather questionable company:D

why are you a target? Because you dress like a rocker/emo/metaller (well i presume you do if they said that),unfortunately this country isnt big enough to tolerate people acting and looking too differently, its quite sad really. But bare in mind that dressing like that does tend to attract attention, and alot of people see it as a slight attention seeking thing. I went through a bit of a phase of that when I was younger and to be honest I look back now and realised that I got the most **** off scumbags when I was looking like that.

But also bare in mind scumbags are scumbags at the end of the day, they dont understand any boundaries, they are probably angry at their own upbringing and dont realise it, they will end up no where unfortunately, probably on the dole.
If you can realise this and not let them get to you you'll be happy in the knowledge that you'll never be like them then you'll come out a much better person on the long run.

Its not just an Irish problem, same thing happens here in the uk and everywhere i imagine.
OP sorry you had to experience that, being attacked is very scary and thats coming from a 6 foot tall, big guy in his thirties:)
My advise is to have a thought as to where you walk when your alone and try to avoid places where these kind of people hang out.
The same kind of things went on when i was your age and always will im afraid but the good news is it happens less and less as you get older.
Continue dressing as you damn well please, individuality is important.

this crap is a problem everywhere. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055255064
the mother of the girl recently killed for being a "goth" said that we have to try and put an end to this tribalism that is happening with young people.
    and shes right.

 Christ, ganging up on one girl who was minding her own business. If that happens again, get to the nearest garda station and report it or to any passing garda if your lucky. They might not be able to do much but it's better than just letting it go instantly and anyway, harassment is an offense.

    Highly unlikely tbh.

Anytime I have witnessed anything like this, it has been the aforementioned non-posh scumbags.

i get this **** all the time....most recently was in a well known northside club:D and was by some posh barbie doll, i told her what i thought of her and she cried:D:D:D ****ing bitch

although skangers are the worst mainly because they are retarded(this is actually insulting people with a proper issue, but ive no other word to describe these inbreds)

im in my 20s and am a bit of a punk, but i get thrown in the emo bracket:rolleyes:
op the only way is to get physical with these *****, ive lost all the fear of these degenerates i had when younger.
they are cowards, even a gang of them ,ill swing. i know you wont do this but IMO i dont get as much **** now off them.

they abuse me and assault me yet ive chains and what not hanging off me, (not too smart:rolleyes:)

go for the biggest, and just swing and kick as much as you can until he retreats....the sheep will follow;)

interesting and accurate theory, remember that scangers are their own breed :D Have you considered taking up a martial art OP? It could be useful and at the very least make you feel a bit more secure knowing that you have something to defend yourself with if this should happen again.

thats true, but the majority of scum who shout abuse are cowards, proper scum have other things to do tbh:D

and if they are top shop wearing(influenced at the moment by rock:rolleyes:) and have ghd, ill hit a bit harder because of how stupid looking they are IMO:D two can play the game:D
