When to give notice?

I'm going travelling in June, flying out the 15th. The thing is I'm doing exams in May (CIMA exams, 20th-22nd), and taking 3 weeks study leave. When I come back from my exams, I'll only be around for another 3 weeks. So do I give them a good bit of notice and tell them before I go on study leave, but run the risk of them…

So do I give them a good bit of notice and tell them before I go on study leave, but run the risk of them getting rid of me?

Or just tell them when I come back from my exams? Am I obliged to give 4 weeks notice?
