Just wondering how easy it is for a non-WIT student to use WIT Library (in particular College St. Campus)

Is there barriers in place at the doors? Do they perform id checks? Also is it possible to read books in a study area of the library without having a card to check them out?

You can enter the library as a non-WIT Student, study or read a book (theirs or yours :p). Some secondary school students appear there during exam time.

They dont ask for ID unless you want to take out a book, and your ID is used to store your information.
