Well, ones to consider would be Suhr and Vigier.

Go to one of the bigger music shops and just try as many guitars as possible
find one that feels good to play and sounds good.
    Thats all i would advise.
I've gone through Strat, Les Paul, SG, Tele and back to Fender Strat
Again. My actual fav one is only a mex strat.
Some Ibanez high end strats are nice to play
    Try G&L as well

I think the stock musicman silhouette answer is applicable here

G&L legacy or S-500. Great deals on e-bay.

G&L +1. Is my ASAT (HH semi hollow tele) is anything to go by it'll be amazing!

I'd probably think about Warmothing it if I was going Strat style. http://www.warmoth.com

I have an ASAT semi-hollow and the 25th anniversary model with the S-100 pickups. huge bang for the buck.

If you have 2 Fender's already you could always go for something other than a Strat perhaps? €1500 buys some nice stuff now the Euro is so strong. Just putting it out there :D
