I know that the original cartoon wasn't the most intellectually challenging of programs but this just looks like pure muck. I hate when you don't expect much and are still let down.

This is actually one of the worst trailers I have ever seen. What on earth happened to the Wachowskis? How did these idiots ever make the Matrix? It just doesn't seem possible that men capable of such brilliance can produce such rubbish.

Well, while it doesn't look like something I'd be running out to see, I kinda wonder what else were people expecting from this? It's based on an extremely cheesy 60's kids show, and the film seems like it's aimed for kids. Yes, it's from the guys behind The Matrix, but were you really expecting another Matrix?

    This years Thunderbirds, tbh.

I meant to post a thread on this - looks like utter crap of the highest order to me, and coming from me that's quite a statement.

I also think it's completely wrong to say the movie is aimed at kids - it is not, but happens to be probably PG or 12A. I've read quite a few things in which it's stressed that it's not aimed specifically at kids at all.

Well it would appear to be aimed at kids from the trailer, so pardon me if I'm wrong.

I agree with Karl - while it's always a shame to see crummy films with huge budgets, nothing about the project suggested it might be anything special other than the involvement of the Wachowskis. I really liked the Matrix, but I already felt they'd dropped the ball so badly with the sequels that I wouldn't exactly hold my breath over any project that has them attached.

I'm genuinely curious as to how this got bankrolled, though. I don't see enough scope for mass appeal, but then again I don't see enough scope for mass appeal in Wanted (given that the original comic is basically Mark Millar pandering to uber-hardcore superhero comic fanboys) and yet it's out soon with James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie....

    It'll do alright. :)

They lifted scenes from such classics as Commando and Harley Davidson and the Marlboro man.

I'm sure it will, but it will likely be yet another film in which realistically Angelina Jolie's entire body apart from her tits could be green-screened out of the film, and the target audience would neither notice nor particularly care.

(I won't be contributing to the box office takings of Wanted, as the original comic is already a bit crap, and removing its paper-thin plot from the fanboy-pandering context of superheroes & villains will likely make the movie even worse....)

No, seriously, I think Wanted looks absolutely dreadful - I know the whole basis of film rests on suspension of reality but Wanted - and I have seen some real thin films - really had me sit up and go 'Come on....really. How pathetically stupid does that look?'

Wanted does indeel look like rubbish, but I'm hoping that it will at least offer some spectacle for a Friday evening given that there has been a noticeable lack of films depending entirely on shooting and explosions so far this year.

As for Speed Racer, I'm quite looking forward to seeing it. Sure it's not going to redefine cinema but it looks entertaining and from the trailer it seems to have captured the show very well.

Out of the four films they’ve written and directed so far, I loved three and detested one (Revolutions), which to me is a fantastic ratio of good/bad movies (much healthier than most writer/directors, at least). There seems to be a lot of hate directed at the Brothers (not just on this board, but all over the net) and I dont really get where its coming from  I certainly don’t expect them to knock out a genre-defining movie every time they step behind the camera. From the trailer it looks like a hyperactive kids movie, so I’m just hoping that at the very least, its a fun ride :)

I was just looking at imdb's page for speed racer, the plot synopsis is empty, that seems apt :) The only way this film could be good (given that it visually looks so bad) is if the storyline is pure cheese. Bad films can get away with a lot if the are just cheesy films made for kids. If it takes itself seriously then it'll be terrible.

i must be alone thinking it looks fairly cool actually. i don't know the original source material, but all i'm expecting is a "cartoonish" movie. sure isn't the point to be a live action cartoon, of sorts... with the same feel and visual style as a cartoon?

if anything else, it'll be interesting to see how they work the "even the background is in focus" camera work

for what it's worth, I've seen the trailer 4 times now and I had a genuine cringe each time. It looks exceptionally rubbish. The kids that like this one must be stupid :p

Yep it defo looks terrible but I somehow have high hopes for this movie.

Just back from seeing Pulp Fiction tonight and you should see the trailer for that movie to realise you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.
