Laptop Crashing

    Hi all,

In the last week or two my laptop crashes on a regular basis.

The screen changes color slightly, and the mouse\keyboard wont respond at all.

Then I turn it off using the power button, but when it reboots it doesn't go to the bios, etc....loads of colorful vertical lines appear and get brighter and brighter. Then I power off and power off and on again and it boots perfectly.

It can happen at any time...using internet explorer, itunes, word etc.

Does it sound like a hdd crash, screen problem, vista problem or overheating?? :(

Could be a number of things from what you descirbe but first and foremost I would check and see if theres an updated graphics driver for your laptop. It semms, from what you describe that this maybe the culprit for the crashes but its hard to determine without first hand experience of the issue.
Does the lock up occur after a certain period of time? If you log into safe mode in Vista , by pressing F8 as the laptop boots up and sleecting the "Safe Mode" option, see if the machine stays up and running for longer than normal, at least this would rule out some hardware issues.
Let us know how it goes.

    Hey,

    Thanks for the advice.

The problem is very intermident ....I mightn't happen for 3 days, and then it might happen 3 times within the space of an hour.

I just checked for updated graphics drivers and new drivers were released last week....downloading now!
