this has been a thing that has always been something that has interested me.its about djs talking while doing there set at 21sts 40ths or any in situation for that matter .have yous got a certain script that use go by ? or does it all depends on what feed back your getting from the crowd that your playing to. i know in some cases for the likes of 21sts etc that you have to say a few things.. but at times its hard to hear what a dj does be saying at all .. talking to a few club djs that i know ..have always said a good dj should be rarely heard and that his music should do the talking for him .what yous think..

Exactly. The real job of the DJ is to keep the songs pumpin all night, I know I'd personally refuse to do a gig where I would be asked to talk on a mic as I do not believe its neccessary, If your tracks are good, and you have a fair idea of what sort of progression you want (maybe slower tracks to start then building up to the floorfillers) that should be enough. Requests are generally dependent on the crowd.

Hi this might help you! I never talk in a club setting, or even the strand house gig I do. I don't start til about 10pm and most people are locked! They don't want an english guy waffling!

I find at birthdays you can get the crowd involved and talk a lot, but in a club they just want to hear the music. Usually as it's after the pub's have shut and they want a late drink! They don't really care about talking as most of them wouldn't remember in the morning!

I don't really need to talk in the pub on north strand as they just want to pi55 about trying to dance & sing! And GOD some of them are cr@p at both!!!

Anyway have a look through the vids from ellaskins they are good, just do a search for mic and you will find them again. The name is ellaskins if you want to search for all vids by him. :pac::cool::D

look for the word "dj tutor" on Youtube too(its ellaskins also)

he will give you a good answer to your question...

i find a lot of Dj's who do 21st's and wedding and 50th's etc etc are always on the mic...

where as a dj doing a 5 hour long dj set at fabricLive aint gonna be doing much talking...

i guess it all depends on where you are djing and what kinda crowd you got.

my dad said to me that all dj's when he was growing up were constantly on the MIC actually naming the next song they were gonna play....you certainly dont have that nowadays...

i think being on the mic was in vogue years ago, like in the 70's and 80's and stuff.
Dont get me wrong, its still done today..but its not as common place.

i think it sounds real cheesy to be honest(being on the mic making comments) but if you do it properly it can sound good,so what im gonna do at my next set is talk through my korg Vocoder....wonder how that'll go down?????? hmmmmmmm:pac::pac::pac::pac:

+1 I agree I couldn't actuallt talk much last night at a 21st I was doing as I was getting too much feedback! Couldn't move the speakers so had to turn the music right down. But they enjoyed it, and I have got about 6/8 more bookings from it. In fact the girl who booked me was at a gig I did for her friend last year. From that I have had all her friends book me. (About 8 of them, all girls!)

I even got a provisional booking for Xmas! Every tried one of those dalek voice changers Luke! Broughan? Would be good if you played the dr who theme as well! (kidding)
