After moving to Munich and being bikeless for nearly 6 months I finally found what I want after much searching on www.mobile.de

A nice shiney new Kawasaki VN1600 Classic

I was looking outside of the Munich area because out in the sticks the bikes are cheaper and found this beaut. The shop loaded it up with a couple of grands worth of extras to try and shift it and i took the bait. Got the whole deal with a 4 year warranty for €10,146.50.

The only problem is I have to wait until the May bank holiday weekend before I can use it.

    Finally, I'm a biker again

you guys should have seen the area where the shop was , its enough to bring a tear to even the most hardened bikers eye. Sweeping roads , seamless green fields and the most beautiful Alpine back drop you'll ever see.

Can't wait to get back on the road.

Now your bike has a bigger engine than your car. Which is always good.:)

What little Dorf did you buy it in KTRIC? Did you have to travel far out into the Oberbayern?

Bought it from the nice lads in http://www.mcc-bikes.com/ in Traunstein, about 20ks from the Austrian border.

Very simple transaction, I knew what I wanted , he wanted to sell it, done deal.

They had an open day there yesterday and opened quite late for a bike shop on a Saturday, til 16:00 !!! Completely unheard of in Germany. There was even free beer and food all laid out.

I'll be taking a lot of the extras off they put on and selling them on eBay. I'm not a fan of that screen and the stock handlebars. I'm getting the bars from the Vulcan 900 which look 10 times cooler.

I drive a clio 1.2 and manage to look cool.

Lovely bike. Are you only insuring it for the summer? The alps in winter are wonderful for a true brown trouser experience on a bike.

Its getting delivered to my girlfriends house on the first weekend in May. I'm busy every weekend until then so I don't have time to register it until the 2nd of May.

Hey, its a nice Clio

I'd love the bike earlier but every weekend before the first weekend in May I'm busy and there's no chance I'd get to the shop after work because its 125 kilometres away.

I'm getting it delivered to the girlfriends house because before it even touches the road it has to be registered and insured and I have to do that myself. Shops have nothing to do with registering new bikes here.

Also I don't have a garage in my current apartment so to make matters even worse I have to keep it at her house which is 250 kilometres from where we live :(

At least I'll get to take it out for the weekends for the next few months before I get a garage sorted out.

I'm shopping around for insurance at the moment and got a couple of nice quotes.

For a laugh I called Carole Nash in Dublin just too see what it would cost me for fully comp and they told me the princely sum of €2002 !!!

My broker here in Munich gave me a quote of €142 :D so I'm F*cking laughin

I was smiling to myself all the way home this evening.

Yes thank you for letting us know we're being ripped off on insurance.

    I hate you.

    Really I do.

    I'm not at all jealous.

    Not the least little bit.

    ba$%rd.

well at least we can take solace in the fact that he doesnt have any good roads to drive on over there...

There are huge variances in fully comp insurance in Germany depending on region however. KTRIC is in the Oberbayern, which according to this page (fully comp, age 25-30) is regional risk class 2 of a possible 8 (Berlin addresses etc. being the highest risk). This page however shows insurance premiums payable for third party fire and theft are substantially lower and the geographical risk classes are somewhat different. The "Schadenfreiheitsrabatt" is your accident free rebate/discount or what we call a no claims bonus in years. You can see they charge 'steeply' for the first 6 months and provided you get through that you will enjoy much reduced premiums quite quickly.

Edit: Note that the sex of the rider is considered unimportant to this particular insurance company.

Yes indeed, Germany is known for having sh!te motorways

Not forgetting the "Lesser spotted German moving ditch" , known to jump out in front of even the most alert motorcyclist. :D
