Lisa Lashes makes a welcome return to the decks after her recent illness on Friday 18th April 2008 at The Savoy Patricks Street Cork .

This rescheduled date, promises to deliver a party that you will never forget.

Lisa Lashes is the undisputed Queen of Hard House, and has been crowned the World’s Number 1 Female DJ by DJ Mag’s prestigious public-voted poll. (Historically, she’s also the first and only female DJ to have made the top 10.) Renowned as one of the most flamboyant characters in dance music and a hugely successful DJ and producer (she has a raft of gold discs to her name), her career has seen her tour with everyone from Pete Doherty/Babyshambles to Grace Jones and Goldie, while her event bookings have included everything from Global Gathering to the UK Hell’s Angels’ Bulldog Bash; not bad going for a girl whose first job was in Marks & Spencer…

Born into a big family in Coventry, Lisa, who now lives in Leicester, grew up with the lively Midlands dance scene, going out clubbing every weekend to legendary parties like Miss Moneypennies and Chuff Chuff. “My favourite DJs at the time were Lisa Loud, John Kelly and the great and late Toni De Vit,” recalls Lisa. “I remember it was all new to me, but as soon as I discovered the music I knew I wanted it to be part of my everyday life, and I decided to learn how to DJ. I had a mate who had decks but his mum wouldn’t let him play loud music in the house, so I borrowed them… She did me a big favour there! I started buying records from charity shops and borrowing tunes from record libraries, and I got my first gig at a boat party on the River Severn in 1996 for Sundissential.” Lisa went under her Lashes pseudonym - a childhood nickname she’d acquired thanks to her incredibly long eyelashes – and was discovered by the Sundissential promoter, Madders, who gave her a residency on the spot.

Spurred on, Lisa practised hard and looked for other venues to play: her perseverance paid off and she was soon a regular at some of the most prestigious clubs in the UK: Gatecrasher, Godskitchen, Frantic, Golden, Good Greef, Hotdog, Base, Escape, Euphoria, Eat Your Words, Frantic, Fully Charged, Koolwaters, Naughty But Nice, Progress, Radioactive, ROAR, Scream, Slinky, Storm, Temple Theatre, The Met, Tidy, and Tranzaction among many others.

Since 2000, Lisa has headlined all the top UK festivals: Godskitchen’s Global Gathering, Homelands, the infamous Tidyweekender, Tidy Magna, Creamfields UK and Ireland, Knebworth, Escape into the Park, Planet Love, Gatecrasher Summer Sound System and Dance Valley. “I always enjoy these marathonesque parties where the creme de la creme of DJs are reunited, and I love that my job enables me to play all around the globe, I’m really lucky to be able to travel the world like I do. I get to go to the most amazing places, greatest clubs and meet loads of different people. I’ve toured the United States, Canada and Australia, and made appearances in Brazil with Guess Clothing”. Having spent the best part of a decade on the busy world circuit, she’s anything but jaded: “Travelling is tiring and it can take a lot out of you, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I get to play the music that I love in front of crowds of clubbers who are passionate about what I do. Each gig is unique. In China, on the Slinky Heineken Tour, I became the only female DJ to have played to a crowd of over 5,000 in that country. My best club memory was also a massive gig abroad: I played in South Africa in front of 33,000 people. It’s the best feeling ever to perform in front of huge crowds like that!”

With a huge following that love both Lisa and her music, Lashed has become a worldwide brand and a byword for the very best parties. After holding residencies in Ibiza at Godskitchen, Judgement Sundays, Slinky and Tonic, Lisa launched the Lashed parties there in 2003 and has never looked back. “I wanted to create something completely unique at the summer’s hottest location. I wanted to put the fun back into the party. Lashed is a more exciting way for me to celebrate my furious brand of music with legions of clubbers. It’s been such a success that with the help of Strike Artists I’ve been able to bring it to an even greater global audience.” The Lashed parties have now been to China, Korea, Canada, New York, Miami, Holland, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, as well as selling out the UK & Ireland each and every time.

But it’s not just the DJ circuit where Lisa’s giving the boys a run for the money – her productions and compilations have made their mark as well. Lisa’s Hard House Euphoria (2002) and Extreme Euphoria Vol.2 (2003) have become the highest selling hard dance compilations in the world, and to date, her Very Best Of Extreme Euphoria album, released in December 2007, is on course to match her previous achievements. 2005 saw the release of a groundbreaking album on Resist that mixed hard dance with techno, trance and even breaks. A one week Lashed holiday in Ibiza followed, before a colossal world tour where Lisa played more than 30 clubs in 10 different countries in only 2 months, “one of the greatest highlights of my career!” she says.

Production-wise, her recent releases on Lashed Music have brought her yet more acclaim, matching her successful Tidy releases. Lisa’s latest productions have come out on more underground cutting edge labels in keeping with the direction her style is going: Desire came out on Gravity Trap in collaboration with hot hard dance producer Ingo to great critical acclaim. Temptation, out on Riot!, is another favourite amongst the best DJs on the hard scene with its breakbeat feel – another area Lisa’s broken into, playing dirty breaks sets at her Lashed nights alongside Freq Nasty, Rennie Pelgrim, Leeroy Thornhill and The Freestylers at Godskitchen in Birmingham, Turnmills in London, and Bar M in Ibiza.

A self-confessed workaholic, Lisa can generally be found grafting 7 days a week, be it in the studio, DJing or supporting the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Trust for whom she’s a patron alongside Joan Collins, Jerry Hall and Ralph Fiennes. As well as forthcoming gigs in new territories such as Norway and Helsinki, an artist album, and collaborations with Ministry Of Sound, Euphoria, and Godskitchen on compilations, Lisa will soon be working on an exciting film project that shoots in Cornwall. Starring Bill Bailey and Bill Murray amongst others, Lisa will have a cameo part DJing at a beach rave, but the big story is her role composing the score for it… The film comes from the directors behind Casino Royale and Hot Fuzz.

Despite all her success, Lisa is one of the most down-to-earth girls you’re likely to meet, with an unabated passion for music that’s as strong as the day she first stepped behind the decks.

Tickets for Friday 18th April are €22.50 (inc booking fee) Doors open 10pm – late. Buy tickets @ www.tickets.ie, www.ticketmaster.ie or from PluGd Records, Washington Street, Cork.
