Garda CO work

My mam is leaving her semi-state job after almost 30 years next month. She applied for and is starting a job in the civil service as soon as she leaves, under an Garda Siochana as a clerical officer. Quite frankly she is terrified of the new job. Meeting and working with new people (young people particularly), working with the Gardai (who will have different demands as employers to her previous job) and things like that. 30 years in the same job has left her institutionalised as far as working life is concerned.

Does anybody have any idea what the work with the Gardai as a Clerical Officer will be like? If it's mind-numbing filing and typing day after day it will be right up her street.

And also, does anybody have any tips for somebody in her position starting a new job?

    Thanks.

    Hi youcrazyjesus,
I did it for a year as a temp. It's mainly typing statements, reports for DPP and letters. Depending on the station she could be working to a Sergeant or a Superintendent. I found the Gardai great to work with, it was very relaxed overall, although if there was a murder investigation ongoing there was hardly time to look around.
    Hope this helps.
