Third Secretary in Dept of Foreign Affairs Exam?

As far as I know the entry exam for the post of Third Secretary with the DFA is every 18 months or so. I was wondering if anyone knew when the last one was, or when the next one might be? I've written to the general info address on publicjobs.ie but they haven't gotten back to me yet, and can't find any specific info on the dfa website.

Hey Camilla,

The last competition was combined with a general AO comp (i.e. the exam was the same but the post-exam interviews etc. were independent of the AO recruitment).

The Third Sec. recruitment process ended around August/September 2007 and the panel created is set to last two years. The whole recruitment process lasts about 6 months from the time the competition is advertised (there were four stages in the last campaign). Based on that I'd say (guessing!) the next campaign will be advertised around Feb/March 2009 and the first people taken on from that would start the following Autumn. That's pure speculation though, based on the last campaign.

Ringing Publicjobs is probably your best bet - ask for Graduate Recruitment or even "someone who deals with Third Secretary exams".

Any chance of them re-opening these exams again in the near future? What do you think?
