I have to say I spend more time obsessing/researching than playing these days. I play my acoustic guitar all the time, but I spend more time looking at gorgous electrics than actually playing my own. BUT that's because I can only play my electric once/twice a week plugged in because of how loud my amp is (neighbours, other people in my house complaining etc.).

I'm not that great a guitarist but even if I couldn't play a single chord I'd still be obsessing over gear. I dunno what it is about em but if I see a good looking guitar I wanna own it let alone play it.

you think you've got it bad?

    Go over tohttp://www.thegearpage.net

There are some serious gear heads and players over there

They quickly helped me order E900 of kit

Mildly obsessed. If I'd money, I'd be crazy.......

Healthy interest I'd say, don't really obsess about gear but I do spend more time looking at stuff online lately than actually playing (damn guitar player broke his wrist). Have upgraded my amp/bass in the past year. Am hoping to order a Jazz bass soon enough and then get a 15" cab for my amp... but after that I'd say nothing major unless I start playing in a band semi-pro (not gonna happen).

Still I always say whatever I'm buying is the last piece of my setup needed but I always end up finding something else to buy. Have a few boss pedals I don't really need but bought anyway cos I guess I just like buying gear. Guess I'll probably end up getting a decent case for my pedals, and maybe a footswitch for my amp at some stage too. If I didn't play bass I'd have no idea what I'd spend my disposable income on.

I'd say healthy interest but really I probably fall between that and obsessing too much. LOL

In the past week I've spent about €1300 on gear, my dealer loves me.....wait....wrong thread.....

Nah I'm only joking, but really I spent about €1300 on equipment in the past week.

I strangely have no obsession with gear at all.

I've had €400 saved to buy an amp for almost a year now and I haven't yet bothered to look properly.

I guess I prefer playing guitar to obsessing over buying new gear.

I used to obsesses a lot, but honestly, now I've got what I want now, and I've rarely consider buying anything new.

I definitely spend more time thinking about gear than actually playing. But whatever. It's part of the hobby. I play guitar to entertain myself, and very occasionally others. I'm not in it for self-improvement or "the music". I'll make my contribution to the world elsewhere.

I'd say healthy interest. I only pick up something that'll add to my options, rather than just pick up the same crap again and again. If I'm not playing an instrument regularily it'll get sold. For example, I've been playing almost 20 years now, but I only have four guitars (yeah I have a few basses too but stick with me for a minute ;) ) and one of them is for sale. I have something else in mind for for number four but rather than buy something extra and have five with one that doesn't get played much, I'll wait until I sell what I'm selling before I buy what I have in mind, so when it all pans out I'll still have four. Each one fulfills a very different purpose and they all have quite different setups and sounds and part of that is playing in two bands which play in entirely different keys.

Keep buying untill you find your holy grail.....and sell the old gear to fund it.

When you find out what your setup is......that's it all over.....no more fussin'.

    Unless some ****er steals it........noooooo!

Don't have much time for either lately, but before I could have ticked 'spend more time obsessing than playing'. There was a time i'd jump on Ishibashi first thing in work to try and spot J-Custom bargains before the Americans woke up, and its easy enough to spend your lunch hour browsing ebay :pac:

Plus I actually 'enjoy' reading up on new gear and such, sitting down and ogling pics and checking out reviews and things. Getting info about a new line-up from an inside source and posting teasers on jemsite etc. Plus reading the magazines on the loo :D Or heading out on a saturday to meet some guy who had an amp in the buy and sell, or just strolling around guitar shops when im near.

I'd say it all adds up to more time spent checking out gear than pure playing.

'spend more time obsessing about gear more than actually playing', guilty as charged :o.

It's a healthy obsession[I think]. My obsessions recently have been more DIY projects. I like checking out mods/upgrades other folk have done to their guitars and the like.

I'd agree with this, and I honestly can't see me getting anything new for a long time.

I'm sure at some stage down the line, when my Pod becomes obsolete, I may choose a new piece of gear to replace it, but good god, if I haven't become completely content with my lot. ;)

    I'm never happy

I don't think it about being happy. If you're progressing as a player, chances are you're looking to find new sounds or tones or something different. No one guitar covers everything, no one amp covers everything, so if you're doing different things it's only logical different gear tugs at your attention from time to time. If you see the opportunity to further advance your playing experience through new gear then, in my mind, it shows you're still looking to advance as a player.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it anyway :p

when you know what your guitar is going to do or what your amp is going to do...YOU BUY A NEW ONE! and work out what it is going to do...and THEN! A NEW ONE!

I've bought 7 guitars in the last 2 years, bit stupid really but I'll probably sell them all and get 1 savage one...

I've got a good amp and a two great guitars! I want for things only very fleetingly..
