just like to now if anyone out ther knows if hip hop does exist in Cork. I know jay-z is coming in June and the random act like public enemy might show up at the savoy every few months. but i've never come across much in the city at night except stevie g who just plays pop.

can anyone recommend any good places in Cork for hiphop?

Well it does exist... The odd gig pops up here and there. Beans from Antipop Consortium was here a few months ago, Buck 65 seems to love coming down here. Apparently Edan was down but I missed it. There's no real regular hip hop club because there's no real call for it. I prefer it like this, just like the electronic scene here, isn't much of a regular line up but when it happens there's some great live stuff (Dubstep in Liquid Lounge was great).

You should just keep your eyes on the line ups for the Savoy, Liquid Lounge and Cyprus Avenue. Saul Williams is down in April (?) I think.

It's been very slow this winter. People Under The Stairs played. There were only maybe a couple of Irish Hip Hop gigs. DJ Flip and One Be Lo played. And a Cork rapper called Dirty Chancer.

There was a big outdoor gig on in the Peace Park last year that absolutely ruled. Had a load of good DJ's and about 10 or 15 guys doing freestyles, graf artists and the Rythm Rebels breaking. Was part of the book week or something. I hope they do another one next year. It was quite fun to see an audience from the age of 5 to 85 stopping outside the railing and head nodding to some Irish hip hop. :D

Stevie hasn't played in Savoy for months, that Saturday was never a hip-hop night, one of the reasons he left was because he wanted to do more leftfield stuff

There is a hip-hop night every Friday at our new venue which covers a lot of styles

Also, check his Black on Red show on RedFM every Saturday night, which plays loads of hip-hop, and which has been running nearly 8 years

Stevie has been involved in bringing at least 50% of the big hip-hop acts to Cork over the years (PE, Edan, Grandmaster Flash, Guru, De La Soul, jazzy Jeff, Afrika Bambattaa, PUTS, Ugly Duckling etc etc etc) and continues to do so

thats a bit harsh considering all that stevie has done hip hop on Cork. i can honestly say that all the best hip hop gigs i've been to in this country have been in Cork and Stevie played at them all!
