Boards Mods: Get Paid?

Just wondering if all the boards mods get paid?
I know mods on most other forums don't get anything but I was reading in the indo recently about how boards is run "for profit".

So if the mods here don't get paid why work for nothing while someone else gets rich?

Excuse me for being blunt, just wondering about this.

I think the ads are just to pay for the servers and stuff.

    no way.
The founder clearly stated it's run for profit.

Yes though they dont want you 'paupers' to know. They get far more then mortals in wages. They are all pretty rich and undeserving of their cash but thats life. Deal with it.

    Ah, good article.

Noone except for Gerry Shanahan and CuLT are paid afaik, maybe the rest take a slice but as far as I'm aware most of the money that it brings in is to cover the costs of running it.

Cult gets paid 200,000euro a year. The other mods get paid a basic salary between 20k-30k depending on which board they monitor. I also hear they get additional bonuses based on how many people they permanently ban per month. Gordon is pretty much a multi-millionaire by now

Breslin said the longest conversation on Boards.ie is over 1,932 pages consisting of 38,000 posts. The purpose of the post is to write something about the person who posted just before you.

All mods get paid on a sliding scale as follows*:
    • Scathing comment to a noob -€0.50
    • General sarcastic post - €0.25
    • Baiting known idiots - €0.75
    • Warnings issued - €1.00
    • Infractions issued - €1.75
    • Bans - per week - €3.50
    • Bans - permanent - €5.00 (not paid if poster re-regs within 7 days)
    • Joining in to ridicule posters in Feedback - €1.50
    • Posting Lolcat - €1.00
    • Per logged-in hour per forum modded - €0.25
    • New threads started in a forum modded - €0.05
All in all a nice little earner if you are prepared to put in the hours and cause the odd controversy. Last week I made a tidy sum, add that to the hookers and coke and life is good.

I still have my Spamward© system that rewards any user 20% of my spamban bonus delivered via paypal. To apply just be the first to report the offending spam post and quote the reference code "Squirt Country". Once I receive the spamban bonus for banning the spam, I'll make sure you get your percentage.

Why pay mods when they'll do it for free? It doesn't make business sense. Any time you see a "new mod needed" thread, you have folk lining up, hoping to be picked. Add a wage to that and it just gets messy and will take away from the community/volunteer feel of the site, which is what it's built itself on.

The admins deserve to be rich, I mean a site with so much traffic and users should definitely have wealthy owners. If I were a mod of a forum on this site, I wouldn't expect to be paid. The information that I get for free off other users is extremely valuable to me. Should I have to pay to get that info? No, I don't think so. It's free to join and free to use and that's the beauty of it, it wouldn't be what it is if it was any other way. Help others and others help you.

I was wondering why I got virtually nothing! Athletics and Mathematics must be two of the sleepiest fora. That and the fact that the pay rates are multiplicative, not additive (i.e. multiply the pay rates: two fora = 0.25 x 0.25 = 0.0625. (This is to stop greedy mods taking over too many fora))
