    Hi folks

I am finishing a job next month, started 6 months ago and have paid over 4k in tax, can I claim this back 4 weeks after the job finished? I have not worked at all during 2007, just last 2 months, just hammered for tax during this role.

    cheers.

    Hi,

My advise to you would be to request a P21 balancing statement from the Revenue Commissioners. If you have overpaid your tax which it would appear you have unless you have been earning a few grand a week then you should expect a cheque!!

I looked at that dreaded p45 and since jan 08 it says 2,900e in tax deducted, can I claim this back? the rest of the money was prsi and some tax from the last two months of 2007 not sure if I can claim this back?

    thanks,

You need to do two things:

    1) You need to request the P21 balancing statement as suggested above. This will get you a tax refund for any overpayment from the revenue commissioners for 2007. This can't be done for tax payed in 2008 until next year.

    2) After four weeks of unemployment you should be able to start making claims for tax refunds based on the extra tax credits you accrue. You'll have to wait for credits to accrue before claiming the refunds.

EDIT - One other thing to note is that if your tax credits weren't properly sorted out and you were paying emergency tax in 2008 then you might have quite a few unused credits left that may speed up the refund.

    Hi,
I will submit my question here rather than starting a new thread.

How can I get tax checked for 2005, 2006 and 2007? I can't claim bin charges or anything obvious like that but no harm to have to checked especially as I have been paying tax on stock and not getting receipts. Will a P21 suffice here also? If so, how do I request it?
