Cant believe this, what a farce, smacks of desperation on Cas' part...I'd be very, very surprised if Chambers cuts it in super league..They guy has no experience of the game whatsoever, and washed out of NFL europe training last year, Pretty disreputable move on the Tigers part tbh...should concentrate their efforts on getting off the bottom of the table rather than gimmicks like this.....

Fastest player ever to play Rugby?

His NFL failure was down to a foot injury wasnt it?

Didnt a heavy weight boxer try to play rugby league too and fail?

If he's faster than say the likes of Martin Offiah, Ellery Hanley or Kevin Penny with ball in hand while thirteen blokes are trying to take his head off I'll eat me hat.

Over the years a number of boxers have tried their hand at League with varying degrees of success, and indeed a number of league players have left the rugby track for the ring. Probably the only other professional sport as hard as league;):

Anthony Mundine played for the St. George Dragons and Brisbane Broncos in the 1990's .gave up league for boxing and claimed the WBA super middleweight title in 2003.

Adam Fogarty who played for Saints and Warrington was a heavyweight boxer prior to his league career...now acts and has been in Coronation Street, Shooting Fish and Mr. Madonnas Snatch....unsurprisingly, usually plays a knuckle dragging heavy....

Monty Bentham- NZ warriors, Wakefied Trinity wildcats, represented NZ and Samoa at test level. retired from league in 2006 to box.

Most controversially John Hopoate returned to boxing after controversial career with Manly Sea Eagles ,West Tigers and Northern Eagles ended with (yet another) lengthy suspension...anger management not his greatest strength..

Sprinters have also made the transfer to league in the past...

In 1953 'sprint sensation' Emmanuel McDonald Bailey from Trinidad played one game of rugby for Leigh against Wigan and never played again...by all accounts he was awful...most likely the fate to befall chambers imo...

But more successfully, welsh sprinter Berwyn Jones , who had dabbled in union and was a british record holder over the 100m joined Wakefield in 1964 and went on to play at test level for GB....

Just watched the 'unveiling' press conference at Cas on sky news...a total bleedin' circus...Chambers hasn't a clue...apparently he's been briefed on the concept of the forward pass and the offside rule this morning!!!!...total shambles, Cas bringing the game into disrepute imo...

Quite clear that Matterson had nothing to do with it and seemed to be distancing himself from the whole farrago...at least its only a month's trial, and that'll be the end of it.

There's no such thing as bad publicity.

    Fair play to Cas.

...oh I'm afraid there most definitely is coeurdelion, and Cas are getting it in spades. I had great hopes for the Tigers this year, but the fact that they recruited so poorly in the off season and are so completely out of their depth tactically and skillwise in the superleague hasn't done them any favours.

This Chambers malarky is obviously causing huge friction between the management team, which frankly, given their on field travails, Cas need like a hole in the head at the minute. Among most League fans at the moment they're regarded as a joke....now thats bad publicity!

I know how coeurdelion is spelt. Unfortunately it was already taken on most messageboards even as far back as 98. I mis-spell it because there are more chances to keep the same name on each board :)

Whilst it may cause derision with rugby league circles it raises their profile in non-traditional areas. Maybe they are hoping that their link up with a world famous sprinter will stop people from noticing what a dump castleford is?
As for Chambers, he's using it as a publicity stunt too. Oooh a chance of a gold medal might leave athletics if we don't give him a chance in the olympics... Please come back Dwayne....
If he was serious about his rugby he'd have asked the loiners for a trial. :D

Apologies, an uncharacteristically (no really, I swear) schoolmarm-ish moment of mine...

Curiouser and curiouser...'chariots' Offiah has offered to mentor chambers if he's 'serious' about RL....

Of course he's not actually serious.

    It's just a PR stunt.

According to the York City Knights website, Cas have arranged a friendly with them on 27 april (reserve grade) to see Chambers in action......

Played for ten minutes, made a tackle and was taken off, hardly auspicious...Game was delayed for 20 minutes 'cos 3,000 people turned up to see the guy.....

was he that bad? I'd assume he is a defensive liability

A slight correction, he played for very nearly a full forty, but was completely buggered by the end...his stamina not good. Also got mullered a few times, seems to have done something to his shoulder...If you watch sky news sports they've got clips...

Cas are letting him go, reckon it would take too much time and effort to get him up to speed (no pun intended)...

Nothing but a publicity stunt then after all.

Whilst the Cas Chairman was announcing it he also said that they will refund 50% of the ticket cost for any Castleford Fan who went to the Millenium Magic as an apology for their poor performance.
    Good gesture I reckon.

Thinks thats a necessary and timely move, they were appalling..spoke to two die-hard Cas fans yesterday who went to Cardiff and spent and small fortune to follow their team and were served up with that drivel....terrible!
