3 top Irish programmes that would do very well in the UK

    1. Podge and Rodge - Many dont like it and see it as distasteful (I can see why) but it does have an edge on many programmes of similar format aimed at a similar age group in Ireland and the UK. One of RTE's more original and better productions IMO.

    2. Reeling In The Years - a copied idea but one that has been put together sublimely and makes for compulsive viewing. Its something you always want to watch and if the BBC had a similar series of programmes every few months
it would be a success in the UK aswell. RTE deserves credit here.

    3. Prime Time - Good simple format - better then 'Newsnight' except for Paxman

Podge N Rodge would kill over there. You can see the way the English guests who appear on the show are consistently shocked by the level of profanity & near-libel spouted by the puppets but by the end seem like they've just had the most enjoyable interview of their lives.

I reckon the Brits would go for it just like they did with Zig N Zag. Another Channel 4 winner in the makings there.

Thats what I think. Part of me would be sad to them snatched because it is one of the better RTE shows and something they actually managed to do right but part of me is also supprised Channel 4 has yet to make a move for it. However would RTE be prepared to lose a ratings winner? As rare as they are! If Channel 4 do come knocking as I suspect they definately will I hope RTE can hold on to Podge and Rodge but I think inevitably Channel 4 will snap it up and pass it off as British of course ;)

I of course meant to say "near-slander" not "near-libel" there. :D

This is probrably the best Podge and Rodge interview in recent times.

I enjoyed them ripping the p*ss out of these two nobodys so much:D:D Channel 4 would not like this though considering they spawn these idiots once a year;)

I'd say Anonymous would do well in most places.

Anonymous. I think its very poor to be honest.

Naked Camera would be good, but the concept I'm sure has been done before. Anyway Boiling Points on MTV was a million times funnier, but to be fair Naked Camera was decent.

Oh how could I forget Draw with Don could work.

How would the UK public take to RTE's coverage of sport? Esp. soccer & rugby which is infinitely better than the beeb or Sky...

i think its fair to say podge and rodge have bigger guests than any other chat show on irish tv

the britts have obviously caught wind of the show

RTE only gets away with that type of coverage because this is a small country outside the UK. They would be sued left right and center if it was a major channel in the UK not to mention 'missing out' on an interview with every major club at this stage which the BBC and Sky are well known to be often threathened with if they dont tow a particular line or are too critical.

They wouldn't go for that. It's a little remembered fact but ITV's original football punditry was very much like RTE's "say whatever you like" forum. The advent of Skys craptastic sportutainment meant the other channels soon had to follow suit and start talking unimaginable amounts of bollocks.

Basically RTE have never moved on from that old style and hense are now seen as "unique" and "cutting edge" purely because they never had to change.

I think the Podge and Rodge show is not funny anymore. It was briefly when it first aired but has become stale now. Just the same style of joke over and over with nothing new.

Podge and Rodge wishes it was distasteful, its no where near. Its mundane, repetitive and, although I will admit the McCauls appearance was great the show is.... 'SECONDS FROM DISASTER'.
