Is possible when ringing a mobile in the UK to ring someone’s voice mail and just leave a message. I know in here if you add a 5 after the 086 or 087 it is possible.

    Thanks in advance

Sorry, this isn't possible with UK mobiles.

Most mobile networks don't use the Irish mailbox prefix approach. In fact, 3 Ireland doesn't even use it.

UK Mobile phones all divert to the same number for voicemail.

You can dial into a UK mailbox, but you need to know which network the phone is on and also what the voicemail access number is!

Typically, they're published as the number you use to access your voicemail while abroad.

The Irish system was planned into the numbering allocations from the start and is a lot more user-friendly.

It wasn't planned that well! It used to be that you'd increment the first number after the prefix by one ... i.e. 086 1234567 would become 086 2234567.

But I guess they got around that ..

    It was planned, Comreg put:

    08X 5 XXX XXXX

into the numbering plan several years ago.

The previous system with adding 1 to your number was just how eircell had decided to do things themselves when they ran their own number range and comreg didn't have anything to do with number allocations. Goes back to the 088 days!
