Ok, anyone here been involved/ tried to get thru T5 ?

Bit of a shame what should have been a showpiece has turned into a media debarcle

Is it really as bad as people are making out ?
Did BAA or BA screw up big time ?

Was it just trying to run before you have learnt to walk ?

    Interested to hear view/experiences

TBH I have been avoiding LHR for about 2 years now ( going thru AMS/FRA/CDG )

To be fair the situation is not too different to any new terminal opening at any major airport, it looks bad as BAA and BA were so confident that things would run well from the start.

I must have missed those fecked up terminal openings. Got a link to a recent cock up other than T5?

The T5 cock-up is serious, it has made the news globally and has got political attention due to the London Olympics.

I can't see how BA (they've put they're hands up) can escape the fallout without heads rolling

    Think you missed a few.

Denver,Kuala Lumpar, Bangkok and Hong Kong all encoutered problems on opening similar to those at T5.

The above has been reported in most UK media.

On the plus side from what I have heard it is a very impressive building, great facilities, great Business lounges. Look forward tio seeing it soon.

Don't know about Denver but all the others were new (relocated) Airports... not just the addition of a new terminal within an existing airport.

    Big Difference... :)

True, but it is still a huge logistical move. Yes they did screw up and no comfort for passangers that have been affected but things will settle down. That said can't see BA moving all its operations by end of April now.

BA have had a major baggage problem for a few years now. All down to the shear volume of bags.

When we were being shown around the stands in T5 all our ears were getting was the wonderful baggage system. We could see major problems ahead. One being how the staff get to the aircraft as there has not being enough provision made for the amount of staff required.

I was due to start in T5 at 0630 on Friday 28th. After being shown around T5 I decided I do not want to be here. Relaxing in Ireland using up my annual leave now and reading my e-mails from Willie Walsh.

Anyway it is time to look up this Murray Air Cargo DC8..................

So some of the BA workers are wimping out of it and deciding to take leave instead? :D

Hopefully they will have it sorted by Wednesday as my company booked me on a BA flight from Glasgow to Heathrow. I might see if I can get it changed to BMI as my experience of BA over the last 18 months on the Glasgow - Heathrow journey is woeful. They always pull the Scottish flight to safeguard there international flight when there are problems.
