Two quick questions before I go buy the iPod Touch...

I have a two quick questions for you all, before I go out and spend a ridiculous amount of money that I don't really have, on an iPod Touch.

I don't have wireless internet at home. What features of the iPod Touch would I be able to use without any internet connection? Obviously i'm assuming all of the music/video/photo parts will work as normal. But what about the rest?

Are there any free wi-fi spots in and around Dublin? I live out in Portmarnock and work in Grand Canal Dock. So anywhere around there would be useful.

    Ta for your help!

AFAIK all starbucks have free wi-fi in them. Probably a lot of other cafes aswell.

Its a fine standalone media player anyway. I dont have wifi at home but tend to find that you will come across hotspots when you are out and about. Eg you can get free vouchers in McDonalds, some starbucks have it but I think you have to pay. Have a google about as there are lots of hotspots in Dublin. Most hotel lobbys will have some form of wifi either free or you have to buy.

you don't have to pay in starbucks if you have an eircom broadband account, but saying as you don't have wireless at home it's unlikely you have eircom broadband.

TBH...You shouldnt go spending E300+ on something which really by the sound of it you will only be using for music and videos..Since you dont have wireless at home twill just be like any other Ipod but you can touch it :D:D...Instead you should get 60GB or 80 GB Classic..Saving a lot of money,,,BY THE WAY...200 POSTS :D:D

I disagree - the touch is much much better for watching video. I also dont think that the cost of the touch is that much more than say an 80G video ipod. You also have the option to browse the web etc if you happen to stumble on a wifi hotspot

    80gb Classic: €229
    8/16/32gb touch: €279/€369/€459

Quite a bit of a difference really because if you are going for video then the cheapest touch can instantly be ruled out of the equation. I think for simple video/music playback something like the Archos 605 might be a more worthwhile buy.

    Also @callaway92 there is no 60gb Classic, only 80gb and 160gb :p

if your just looking for a good music player with some video on the side i'd go for the zune or ipod classic as the price:gb ratio is far greater than the ipod touch.

And if your looking for a video and music player thats equal in both departments i'd go for the archos 605 or possibly one of cowans players as i hear they are good too and they both have large hdd's, have far better codec support and are cheaper than the touch (well not sure what cowans devices cost but i'm sure theyre decently priced).

It seems that the touchs wifi/net browsing seems to be the biggest draw for most so in your case it dosn't seem like the most sensible purchase.
As for wifi hotspots, i've found that most i've come across in dublin city centre you have to pay for.
