    Hi All

I have trawled the topics searching for an answer on this one, but no joy.
I need to buy an mp3 player with a radio as a present. I don't think any of the Apple offerings have a radio on them.
Basically need something compact with half-decent storage and a radio.

    Any recommendations much appreciated!

Check out iAudio (by Cowon) range, I think all of them have FM radio and are known for fab sound. I've owned two iAudios so far and I've been very happy with them. The feature I use often is recording from FM so whenever I hear a song I like but don't know I can record it to look for it afterwards. If you let me know what is the "half decent storage" for you I can give you some recommendations.

For me, half-decent storage would be 4GB to 8GB...

Not as easy to obtain as some other players but the Zune comes in at 4, 8 or 80GB, looks great and has a nice radio with RDS. :)

Great iAudios in 4 to 8GB would be U3, 7 or D2 models (oldest to newest and cheapest to most exp), depending on how much you can spend.

iAudio 7 has a somewhat original "sliding" interface so may be not for everybody (I think it goes up to 16GB), U3 has a joystick and D2 a touchscreen. U3 and D2 are both great players + they also play movies. U3 would be the best "features for money" choice. D2 is very classy and has a SD slot so the storage can be upgraded to whatever the current SD card capacity is. If you have money this would be my choice to impress. There is also newer U5 up to 8GB but I haven't tried it myself.

I think Peats carries them but you can get them new much cheaper from Ebay shops, that's what I do :)

Thanks a mill for the replies!!
Can you give me a rough idea on prices?

I really can't remember what the current price range is but you may want to phone Peats or Back from the Future (Dublin Aungier St) http://www.ireland-am.com/
Also I believe Pixmania has them, but I don't think their prices are very good! Myself I usually have the patience to hunt on Ebay but it's probably different with a gift to buy!

I have an iAudio 7 8GB - takes a while getting used to the controls but it sounds great and it's so easy to put music on it (just acts like a USB Mass Storage device, so no screwy software to mess around with like iTunes).

    Got mine from www.advancedmp3players.co.uk

There's also the new cheaper Cowon U5 (replacement for the U3 I guess) which is just out in the US - don't know when we'll see it here.

I have pretty much the same problem. I went looking in the shops today and started looking at the creative stone plus. Its really small, has a radio, 2Gb and looks really cool. Its about 60euro. Does anyone have one? If so whats it like?

I was just talking to a friend who pointed out to me that Sansa Clips players are very good sound- and moneywise & they have loads of features. He's more into "small" players like Shuffle or Stone and he said Sansa Clips are much much better value than others. There is a hoard of them now for 30 pounds Buy It Now on Ebay.co.uk.

the stone is terrible, poor battery life, fiddly, and crapply looking
    IMO, got as gift

try an iaudio, and that www.advancedmp3players.co.uk site is a very good place to buy
stg:euro rate is also very good
also search on google and get a 5% discount code
    shipping to Europe costs £12.99

There is a remote control integrated with ear phones for the iPod with a radio on it, if your iPod supports it.

i have a creative zen both the 8 and 6 gig and i got them as they have a radio , i much prefer them to the ipod as they are not as restrictive , even as far as putting them up on more than 2 computers - the recording of the radio is a good option but i have found that its best to delete the recording from you computer rather than from the machine as it does not tend to delete from the hard drive and so takes up space
my vote is to the creative !

No point in starting new thread as am looking for same as the OP - but I need an MP3 player that has a radio, similar storage to OP (4,6,8 GB max) but here's the thing - it has to be possible to charge the player through mains.

I personally have the Sansa Clip and it's fantastic - but as I work in an office I can charge it no problem day to day via USB. There is no other way of charging it. Suits me - but looking for a player for a friend who doesn't have regular access to a computer hence usb charging is useless to him.

any ideas? Afaik the Stone is usb only too.

    Help appreciated!!

One of these will let you charge most USB devices without the
need to access PC/laptop USB power. haven't used it with my Creative
devices but works fine with iriver and Zune. Absolute bargain, less than
    €5 inc postage.

+1 vote for the MS Zune in 80GB. Great player, very small and excellent screen. About 200 Euros for 80GB.

    Cheers

Just finish up this post, I ended up getting a 2GB Sansa Clip from ebay for €43 delivered.
    What a great little device!
Tiny, great sound, good radio, and drag and drop files - none of that iTunes messing.
I'm going to get myself one of these now.

    Thanks for the help folks!
