Man rescued in Dún Laoghaire harbour

A garda was lowered into the sea to rescue a man from Dún Laoghaire harbour last night.

Gardai were called after a man apparently fell into the water in front of the boathouse at the East Pier at around 10.10pm.

Members of the public had thrown lifebouys to the man, but he was unable to reach them and was losing consciousness.

A garda was lowered into the sea with a lifebouy and stayed with the stricken man until the RNLI inshore lifeboat arrived 15 minutes later.

Both were taken from the water and brought ashore.

The injured man (44) was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital by ambulance.

    The garda was not hurt.

maybe so, i remember a similar incident with a guard in my town, he jumped into the river and pulled the person out, it was his second time doing it though, and only got the medal after the second jump, youd think the first would be enough!
