MBP 15" Replacement battery - advice

    14 month old MBP 15" battery has given up the ghost, fading sharply over the past few weeks, so that it's almost useless now. I contrast this with the 3+ years of battery life I got from my 12" Powerbook :(

    Question: Would you guys trust a replacement battery from a well known auction site, or should I just bite the bullet and buy from the Apple store ? Would you even consider a 3rd party after-market battery ?

    I'm reluctant to shell out 140 euro (Apple.ie) if I don't have to.

    Have other people here a similar experience ? How did you handle it ?

    Depending on the circumstances, you may be eligible for the Battery Replacement Program.

    Thanks ... I'd found a different link which mentioned specific ranges for serial numbers, and my battery is outside those ranges.

    Your link seems to be more generic, and I certainly have less than 300 battery cycles ... I'll call my nearest Apple Authorised Service Provider tomorrow.

    Thanks for the quick response ... if I get anywhere, I'll post back :)

    Would still be interested to hear if other boardsies have had similar experiences with the 15" MBP

    No, I've gotten burned too many times with second-hand or el-cheapo batteries. ONLY if you have the seller's assurance that the battery is OEM (i.e. Apple-made) and unopened, would I recommend buying. In such circumstances, you're looking at saving e40 at most.

    Plus one on that. Id only use 3rd party memory in a Apple product otherwise your asking for trouble. Its far to hit and miss...
