    Hi all,

Can anyone recommend any good careers advisers / guidance people in Dublin or Kildare? I'm looking to change jobs but have no idea what I'd like or what I could do. I've been a public servant for 10 years, more or less straight from school and just want a change.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    JL

This something I would be interested as well! Just out of college and haven't a clue what to do! Did an Arts degree ( ) and can't seem to get a job due to lack of experience etc!

Not to put anyone working as a careers adviser down but I would definitely try and do a lot of research into your choices before going to see one. Often people go to careers advisers because they are lost or unhappy in their careers. In a lot of cases they already know what they would like to do, or have a rough idea but there are reasons why they are hesitating to make the move.

It's these reason that provide the real keys in helping people to move towards a more fulfilling career. A careers adviser will just suggest possible paths based on your personality, which is categorized by a generic test. For example, in certain cases it is broken down as:

RED = Person is aggressive, takes charge, business orientated.
BLUE = Person is analytical, likes to work on their own, numbers crunching.
GREEN = Person is passive, enjoys working with people, not dominating.
YELLOW = Person is outgoing, loves to implement change, can take charge.

They are just condensed versions. But the test will show you to be a blend of them and pick out your dominate color, then you will get some generic careers i.e. Marketing / Sales / Accountancy given to you.

They do provide a good service and are definitely worth a shot. But remember they will only suggest a path, usually what stops people walking that path are obstacles in their way and their in lies the real issues to tackle.
