I'm quite new to Airsoft but it seemed to me that the only problem the presenter could come up with was that the devices look very like guns and that they could be used in a robbery. This annoyed me.

While this would look bad for the sport it doesn't change the fact that someone who is going to rob a bank is going to do it whether or not they have a toy to threaten a clerk with. The intent is already there.
If I think about the situation, I would be just as scared of a hurl or a golf club. I wouldn't stop and think, "Oh, he hasn't got a gun so he's not serious". I'd hand over the cash regardless of what was pointed at me.

Sorry for the rant and I'm sure it's been brought up before, I just felt it was a poor arguement.

It's the same problem all the time and really at this stage is the only one that people seem to bring up against airsoft. Unfortunately it's not one that I personally see being resolved at any point, it may die down and get less attention for a while, but it'll be brought back up every now and again

I think like you said that arguement will always remain for the simple fact that, while people may realise the guns arent dangerous in their capabilities and power, They DO look like real guns, thats a fact, and seeing as thats obviously an integral part of the whole airsoft experience their appearence arent going to change(hopefully).

Also as regard being used in a hold up.
Say a two people rob a store each.
One has an M15A4 (unlikely that a scumbag would have a real M15A4(unless its sawn-off) but lets carry on).
The other has a baseball bat.
They have both made up theri mind to rob the places.
During each of the robberies the robbers decide to attack the clerk with their devices(now both weapons).
Which clerk ends up with the worse injuries???

Answer: The airsoft rifle leaves at most a few welts/bruises on the clerks face, but is ultimately not seriously hurt.
The baseball bat at minimum cause concussion. This can go up to bleeding from the head, broken jaw, broken cheek, fractured skull, brain damage and of course DEATH!!

    Which is truly more dangerous?

This arguement has p*ssed me off more an more as it is used, so sorry if I seem angry but I am.

Well done in your defence and explanation of Airsoft. Trully your are anasset to our fine sport. Thank You.
    Rant over.

This has been said before, and is a good rebuttal for the anti-everythings etc
A criminal with intent does not need to be in possession of an airsoft device to carry out a criminal act, all they require is sufficient force and threat (or violence of action) to carry out that act.

The article is not to blame, only the offender. But that does not satisfy the band-wagon politicians/media with false allegations and scare-mongering.

The IAA have had great success in liasing with the DoJ in relation to the sport (and I fully intend to join lads, after my finals), in creating lines of communication with the airsoft community, and in putting out the facts of the sport, so fair play on all counts.

Well done to Sean, especially considering the short notice and his other mundane concerns of the day. ;)

I thought that went superbly. All concerns addressed and really quite a positive light on airsoft and especially the IAA.

The reason my dear they look so realistic is interracial to the sport. If we HAD to use bright pink AEGs with ribbons streaming out the back we might as well play q-zar (that's what I would of said)

When it cuts of was that the end of the interview?

hmmm.... it seems something happened to the end of the recording, its not in the source file I have here either.... there wasn't much more than that though to be honest

The best response ever by the IAA, I nominate Seán to speak on the IAAs behalf from now on.
    Great piece.

Very true, but some previous interviews were a bit jumbled, great to hear a piece like that puts all the facts on the table and dispells any inaccuracies or attitudes people may have, great job. :)

Someone once made the great comparisn: "If a ball is kicked through a window no one blames the football. The person who kicked it is in the wrong, people need to stop worrying about airsoft causing crime but of CRIMINALS causing crime"

Or something along those lines, they did a better job of it... but I really thaught they'd summed it up...
