I have recently been offered a job as Tech Support Engineer with CPL for HP. I will be on the Ericsson helpdesk. Can anyone give me feedback on what its like to work for them and on that helpdesk.

Do a search for CPL on this forum and you'll find loads of answers. There's various opinions about HP/CPL - some people liked it, most hated it.

Very wary of CPL. Job was advertised as 20.5K now 20K. Read contract only to find out that you have to reimburse CPl if you leave or if your employment in terminated. I think thats an asbsolute joke. There is a No. of other factors leaning towards not taking the job but I feel I will be throwing away my opportunity to get started in IT

You only have to reimburse them if they gave you money to move for the job and you leave within 6 months or something like that. TBH, there are much worse jobs.

Very wary of CPL. Not many good reviews about them. I havnt even started yet and I'm being messed around. I was told job was in Leixlip and now is in Clonskeagh. Job was advertised as 20.5K now 20K Also read the contract to discover you must reimburse CPL if you leave or if your employment is terminated. Feel I must take job though to start my IT career.

They're moving the facility out to Leixlip in the Summer. It's in Clonskeagh at the moment. Seriously, do a search. There are loads of threads about it.

It's cool. Technically working for CPL, but you're working in HP: paid by CPL, but all work stuff is HP. CPL is pretty good to work for, and I have worked for worse.

    Whats cool about it ?
The fact that they're paying you the very least they think they can get away with ?
Their lovely / charming HR staff ?

CPL make no attempt to retain staff / increase morale e.g teambuilding.

What experience do you have or certifications. Do you have a degree in computers or anything. If not I dont think you could expect to get payed more than 20k. Also getting in the door with CPL may allow you to transfer somewhere in HP elsewhere. Screw the money for the first year or so think about the money after that.

However if you do have a degree that money is quite low.

Try HP CDS (Customer Delivery Services) , if you want to go the HP route. It's an internal company that works independently within HP. They look after all service delivery within the HP umbrella within the EMEA. You'll get better than 20k too and they're pretty good to work for if you're a good Engineer. They also have an open ended training budget. HPCDS.com

The job itself is "cool", or "good", compared to a few other jobs I've had. I've worked more for less, so meh. If you follow funk-you's advice, do so now. Seemingly there's one vacancy out in Leixlip at the moment in it.

Also, 20K is what you get for tech job with no certs.

I Started Working There Last June,
i'm on a small Desk, (ten people) And i like it.

tbh the job's what you make of it. i started as a TSA, then went for a coaching role After 7 months. Been doing that since the start of the year, and altho i'm up in the air about the move, who knows what the future Holds!

I think it is a Great starter Job in IT. The amount i've learned In the first 6 months was Unreal. The Canteen in belfield isnt the best, but there is a Sandwich bar out the back which makes Savage rolls.

If you get the right team, You can really enjoy it there, One of my mates Works on a Very small desk, but he gets More technical Calls then ericson would, and he said to me before that he's learnt more in the last year there then in 4 years of college.

If you have any questions you'd like to ask, Please feel free to pm me.

edit: Found the thread I was thinking of, more of a discussion about the move from Belfield to Leixlip though

That's just simple labour economics: all companies will do that.

TBH, the A+ will open a few doors for you. In my experience, the ECDL means jack sh|t.

ECDL is only usefull for people who's job's are to use word to do spell checks and send emails. Its not an IT qualification for proper computer people.

A+ is though, next step after it should be the CCNP. It will open even more doors. Its lots of work though.

Whoa  Thats a big jump!

A+ then Network + then CCNA then CCNP. That would be more like it ;)

ya actually you have a point I got mixed up between CCNA and CCNP. So i actually meant CCNP. I think id skip Network + personally if I thought I could pass the CCNA.

I would have thought A+ then N+ but it depends on what you actually want to do.
