hi guys, any suggestions for an MP3 player with as much memory as the IPOD Classic? In other words if you want an MP3 player with a big memory (min 40 but ideally 80GB) but you dont want to go wtih Apple, are there any other options?

Zune, just look at the recent thread here on the board.
The more I use mine the more I'm impressed - great UI.

Sure... in terms of comparable sized (dimensions) units there is only the Microsoft Zune80 (80gb) currently. Then there's bigger units like the Archos 605 which is a video orientated device...

Other devices no longer in production are the Cowon X5, the Creative Zen Vision: M or the Toshiba S60... all 60gb...if you can find them

    You mean something like the 80GB (€318) or 160GB (€366) Archos at pixmania.com ?

Or any of the above products can also be bought at pixmania.com

And yes, I do love the Archos, for two reasons: no software needed (seen as an external HDD by your PC), and it's screen is nice to play movies on. Music playback time for MP3's on my Archos 504 (about a year old) is 17 hours.

Zune's are not available outside the US so unless you know somebody who lives in the US who you can have it posted to then on to yourself then Ebay is pretty much your best choice. Anybody I know in Ireland who has a Zune got them on Ebay.
